It’s . There is no better time to remind folks that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

Help keep your families and homes safe by following these safety recommendations while charging your electronic devices:

1. Use the cord and charger that came with your device or ones approved by the manufacturer.

2. Charge on a hard, flat surface like a table, desk, or floor.

3. Battery safety starts with preventing damage and knowing the warning signs. A damaged lithium-ion battery can overheat and start a fire. Stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or color, or if you see smoke. If it is safe, move the device away from anything that can catch fire.

4. Unplug your device when it’s fully charged.

A huge thank you to Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety for facilitating a great weekend of training with the_water_thieves for a dive into the science and techniques of drafting.

We’re always looking for ways to improve outcomes on the fire ground and are excited to bring this knowledge back to Galien.

Training never ends. The team was hard at work this week, throwing ladders, sharpening skills and checking equipment.

🚨 STRUCTURE FIRE ALERT 🚨

Earlier today, the New Carlisle Fire Department responded to the 7200 block of Chicago Rd for reports of a structure fire.

Squad 91 arrived to find heavy fire conditions. A Shift initiated an aggressive, coordinated fire attack, successfully extinguishing the fire before it spread to the remainder of the structure while maintaining firefighter safety.

No injuries were reported.

During this incident, NCFD was also managing two additional emergency calls, bringing the total to three simultaneous incidents.

🚒 WHY DOES STAFFING MATTER?

NFPA 1710 identifies a minimum initial response of 16–17 firefighters for a typical single-family structure fire, depending on aerial apparatus use. This highlights the importance of adequate staffing and mutual aid, especially when multiple emergencies occur simultaneously.

A special thank-you to all mutual aid departments who responded and assisted with today's emergencies. We would also like to recognize our off-duty members who responded from home, providing additional personnel and equipment.

Outstanding teamwork and coordination by everyone involved. Thank you for answering the call and helping keep our community safe!

Today, we climb in honor of the FDNY firefighters and all the heroic first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

We remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the lives forever changed that day.
