I think we need to have a little conversation about supply and demand

Let’s use last year’s egg crisis for example.

When the store shelves were empty, the demand shifted to local farmers (yay!) so we had to make some changes to keep up with the high demand.

Then, when the shortage fizzled out, most of the demand went back to the big box stores and farmers were left with an oversupply of eggs.

I think it’s safe to say that our biggest problem isn’t necessarily the imported beef, but rather our dependency on the system that’s bringing it here.

You see.. those customers who came and went, they could’ve stayed but they chose not to. We were meeting their demand but convenience was the priority.

And we get it. Convenience is convenient.

But here’s the thing about local agriculture:

We can’t build a strong local food system if we only support it when the big system fails us.

Farmers have to make decisions based on demand, too.

When demand is high, we invest.
We grow, we expand, we make changes to keep up.

But when that demand disappears overnight, those investments don’t disappear with it.

And that’s where the conversation about imported beef gets interesting.

Maybe the biggest problem isn’t that beef is coming from somewhere else.

Maybe it’s that we’ve become so dependent on a massive system for our food that we don’t realize how vulnerable we are without it.

Because a resilient food system isn’t built during a shortage.

It’s built before the shortage.

It’s built when you choose the local farmer even when the grocery store is fully stocked.

It’s built when buying local isn’t your emergency plan, it’s part of your normal routine.

And we’re not saying you have to buy everything from a farm.

We’re just saying…

Don’t wait until the shelves are empty to remember your local farmer exists.

Just a reminder: we aren't open on Sundays. The business phone stays inside of the business from about 2pm on Saturday til Monday when I go out to check on everything. We are so glad for all the excitement people have for our business! You all know how to make a farm family feel loved! ❤️ currently, Mendy is the only person doing all the things involved in the meat business end of the farm so she is doing her best to keep up on all the responsibilities that are part of that end of the farm. And with the high increase in business the last year 🙌 👏 Mendy is busy most of the time trying to balance family, farm tasks, meat business work and rest. Continue to reach out and communicate! We’ve got something BIG for you… literally. Our latest steer was huge ( #1,660), and that means we’re able to offer extra availability on ½ beef & ¼ beef, or three ¼ beef shares — THIS WEEK ONLY.

💵 PRICE:
▪️ $1,000 per ¼ beef (for a half beef, double this!)
▪️+ $250 processing (paid at pickup. For a half beef - double this!)

Your beef is ready to be cut exactly how YOU want it, but it must be claimed ASAP so we can lock in your custom cut order.

📌 HOW IT WORKS:
▪️ Claim your ½ or ¼ beef now — payment to Rus-Men Farms is due at the time of claiming.
▪️ Your order will be cut per your instructions this week. See the Cut List image attached to this post for an idea of how you can have it cut. If you're unsure, Pinhook can help!
▪️ Pickup is next week at Pinhook Meats — processing fee due at pickup.

We just got fresh chemical free lettuce in! This is wonderful lettuce and keeps in the fridge! We have a lettuce mix and buttercrunch. $5.50 Message me and I'll get it put out for you!
