This week, representatives from the telecommunications industry gathered in Kansas City for the Mid-America Telecom Showcase & Seminar (MATSS)

The conference brought together telecommunications professionals from across the Midwest to share ideas, explore emerging technologies, and discuss the future of broadband and connectivity. From network innovation and cybersecurity to rural broadband development, events like MATSS help keep our industry moving forward.

NOT ALL INTERNET IS THE SAME

When you're choosing internet, the technology connecting your home matters.

Here’s a simple breakdown:

FIBER TO THE HOME — THE GOLD STANDARD

The fiber doesn't stop down the road.
It comes directly to your home.

That means:
- Blazing-fast speeds
- Low latency for gaming & video calls
- Smooth streaming on multiple devices
- Reliable work-from-home performance

SATELLITE INTERNET

The connection travels between your home and a satellite, it can come with higher latency and performance limitations compared with a direct fiber connection. Weather conditions may cause disturbances to your connection.

This past week, our CEO Becki Regier and Controller Mikayla Struber traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, for the NTCA Conference.

While there may have been plenty of music and entertainment around town, the real goal of the trip was to learn, connect, and see what’s happening in the ever-changing world of telecommunications.

So, what exactly is NTCA?

NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association represents small, independent telecommunications companies across rural America — companies like Home Communications.

NTCA gives rural telecom providers an opportunity to come together, share ideas, learn about new technology, and stay informed on the issues impacting the industry and the communities we serve.

At the conference, our team had the opportunity to:

- Learn about the latest broadband technology and industry trends
- Connect with other independent rural telecom providers
- Share ideas and best practices
- Learn about regulations and issues affecting rural broadband
- Explore new ways to continue improving the services we provide

For Home Communications, being part of NTCA means we don't have to figure out the future of rural telecommunications on our own.

We can learn from other independent providers, bring new ideas back home, and continue investing in the communities we've proudly served for generations.

Happy anniversary to our longest-serving team member, Richard Baldwin!

Several of our employees weren’t even born yet when this legend started with us, back when "getting online" meant blocking the kitchen phone line and listening to dial-up noises. From splicing copper cables for landlines (as pictured) to installing the high-speed fiber we use today, he’s done it all!

Thank you for keeping our community connected for decades! We wouldn't be where we are today without you.
