⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER ALERT: SIGN SAFETY TIPS ⚠️
With severe weather approaching Alabama, we want to remind our community of a few safety precautions that are often overlooked.
As sign professionals, we’ve seen firsthand what high winds can do to commercial signage. Here are a few things to keep in mind as storms move through our area:
đźš— Avoid parking beneath or near large signs. Acrylic and polycarbonate sign faces can become dislodged during high winds, turning into dangerous flying debris. Sign cabinets, panels, and other components can also come loose.
đź’¨ Stay clear of freestanding signs and billboards. Strong winds can damage sign structures, loosen panels, or cause components to fall. Don't attempt to retrieve fallen sign faces or other debris while winds are still strong. Even lightweight sign materials can be dangerous.
⚡ Never approach a damaged or fallen illuminated sign. Electrical components and wiring may still be energized, even if the sign is no longer working.
🏢 Business owners: Inspect your signage from a safe distance BEFORE the storm. If you notice loose panels, cracked faces, missing hardware, or signs that appear unstable, contact a professional. Do not attempt repairs during severe weather.
🚧 After the storm, treat damaged signs as a safety hazard. Keep employees, customers, and vehicles away until a qualified professional can assess the damage.
