π₯΅π HEAT WAVE coming? Challenge accepted! ππ₯΅
When it's too hot to hit the playground, it's the perfect excuse to turn your house into the coolest adventure zone! πβοΈ
Here are some of our favorite therapist-approved ways to beat the heat while sneaking in tons of learning:
π Watermelon Stamp Art
Cut a sponge into a watermelon slice (or use a paper plate!) and let your little one dip, stamp, and decorate. Bonus points for adding "seeds" with fingerprints! ππ¨
β¨ Builds fine motor skills, hand strength, creativity, and color recognition.
π§ Frozen Animal Rescue
Freeze plastic animals or toys in a bowl of water overnight. Then give your child a spray bottle, turkey baster, warm water, or a little toy hammer to "save" them!
β¨ Strengthens little hands while encouraging problem-solving, patience, and imaginative play.
π¦ Car Wash Station
Grab a bucket of soapy water, some toy cars (or dinosaurs!), a sponge, and a toothbrush. Suddenly, every toy needs a bath! ππ¦π«§
β¨ Great for sensory play, bilateral coordination, and pretend play.
π― Pom-Pom Splash Challenge
Toss colorful pom-poms into a kiddie pool or bin of water and race to scoop them out with kitchen tongs, spoons, or a strainer. Who can collect the most?
β¨ Builds hand strength, coordination, and early counting skills.
π§Ί Pillow Mountain Obstacle Course
Stack couch cushions, crawl through blanket tunnels, hop over stuffed animals, and finish with a victory dance!
β¨ Builds balance, coordination, motor planning, and burns LOTS of toddler energy!
𫧠Bubble Pop Workout
Blow bubbles and call out challenges:
π Pop with your elbows!
π¦Ά Pop with your feet!
π€² Catch one with two hands!
πΈ Jump as high as you can!
β¨ Works on balance, body awareness, listening skills, and gross motor development.
π We couldn't resist sharing this sweet photo of our unofficial SJ & Associates mascot - Ms. Jules - showing off the adorable watermelon artwork our Group Therapy kiddos created! β€οΈ Jules mom works at SJ & Associates and she has grown up alongside our agency. She still loves stopping by the office to see what the kiddos have been working on!
Stay cool, stay hydrated, and have FUN! What's your child's favorite way to beat the heat? βοΈπ¦π
