πŸš’πŸš‘πŸŒŠ FROM THE SAND TO THE WATER, GARY FIRE IS READY!

After recently unveiling our new POLARIS tracked beach rescue unit, the Gary Fire Department is proud to highlight another major piece of this specialized rescue system, our Sea Doo SAR 3 passenger rescue jet ski!

This is a serious rescue tool built for Lake Michigan, giving our crews speed, stability, and control when seconds matter. With added flotation pontoons, an extended rear rescue deck, emergency and navigation lighting, search lights, underwater lighting, GPS, depth reading, advanced underwater search technology, heated grips, and a tall windshield for cold water conditions, this unit helps us reach people faster and operate more safely.

Gary Fire will continue preparing, training, and upgrading our equipment because our residents, families, and visitors deserve a department that keeps moving forward.

We look forward to a beautiful and safe summer on Gary’s lakefront, filled with family, friends, fun, joy, and major community events, including the Gary Air Show in late August. With that excitement also comes responsibility, and this is a good reminder for all of us to do our part. Watch the warnings, respect the water, and use good judgment before entering Lake Michigan. The safest rescue is always THE ONE WE NEVER HAVE TO MAKE! 🌊πŸ”₯

πŸš’πŸš‘ Today, Gary Fire assisted with a walkthrough of the legendary Genesis Convention Center as preparations continue for the next steps involving the property.

Walking down those hallways and through the different rooms and sections brought back a whole lot of great memories. Concerts, events, celebrations, basketball games, laughter, family moments, and pieces of Gary history all under one roof!

Today was one of those quiet moments where you just pause, look around, remember what it was, and appreciate what the Genesis Convention Center meant to so many people. ❀️

Respectfully remembering the past while looking forward to the future…

πŸš’πŸš‘πŸ”₯ GARY FIRE TRAINING NEVER STOPS!

Several Gary firefighters, mainly from RESCUE SQUAD 4, recently traveled to South Bend for the PUGS Conference, hosted at the Century Center and the South Bend Fire Academy.

The conference covered mid rise fire tactics, thermal imaging camera operations, fireground discussion, and intense hands on forcible entry training. This was not required shift training. These members used their own time and paid their own way because the passion to get better and serve this city at a higher level runs deep inside GARY FIRE.

As Squad 4 Captain George Humphrey stated, β€œI think it helped the guys see some other perspectives of forcing doors.” Every door and every building can challenge you differently, and training like this gives firefighters more options when seconds count.

Every call is different, but when the basics are built through repetition, teamwork, discipline, and muscle memory, firefighters have a foundation they can trust when the pressure is real.

Our mentors and legends always taught us that WHEN UNDER PRESSURE…YOU WILL PERFORM AS TRAINED!πŸ’ͺ🏾πŸ”₯

That is how GARY FIRE keeps building a stronger, safer, and more prepared fire department for the city we so proudly serve!πŸš’πŸš‘β™₯️

πŸš’πŸŒŠ GARY FIRE UNVEILS NEW BEACH RESCUE UNIT BUILT FOR SUMMER READINESS!

With summer approaching and Gary’s lakefront preparing to welcome families, residents, and visitors, the Gary Fire Department is proud to unveil one of our newest specialized rescue units, a POLARIS tracked 4x4 beach rescue UTV!

Built for deep sand, wet sand, steep dunes, and rough lakefront terrain, this tracked unit helps cut response time tremendously and gives our crews better access to reach patients faster where traditional vehicles may not be able to go.

Specced out, equipped, and designed by Firefighter / Master Mechanic Dave Herman, a senior member of the GFD Dive Team, this unit features powered rubber tracks, emergency lights and siren, search lights, radio communication, EMS storage, a Stokes basket, heat and air conditioning, and the ability to assist with launching our rescue jet ski.

This is more than new equipment. This is preparation, prevention, and faster access when seconds matter. As a growing and innovative department, we are proud to keep building from within, improving our training, and investing in tools that allow us to continue serving our city at the highest level possible as we help build a stronger, safer Gary! 🌊πŸ”₯

πŸš’ RAISING THE STANDARD FROM WITHIN πŸš’

The Gary Fire Department is proud to be recognized as one of the finest and most respected fire departments in the region and throughout the State of Indiana. We take tremendous pride in that reputation.

But true professionals never stand still!

They are always looking for ways to elevate, sharpen their skills, and become even better for the people they are honored to serve.

That is exactly the mindset behind our newly implemented UNIFORM INSPECTION POLICY, designed to ensure every member is prepared, professional, and properly representing the City of Gary. It is one more example of how we are continuing to raise our standards and elevate from within.

To begin this important initiative, Fire Chief Larry Tillman reported to Station 1 Headquarters early Monday morning at 0730 hours, where he became the very first member inspected by Division Chief John Leslie Jr.

That moment SET THE TONE for the standard now expected throughout the entire department! πŸ’ͺ🏾❀️

This is not just about shirts, pants, boots, and badges. This is about discipline, accountability, professionalism, and attention to detail! Not because a standard was forced on us, but because this is the standard we expect from ourselves and the pride we carry every time we represent the City of Gary.

The same attention to detail we expect in our appearance is the same attention to detail we bring to every emergency call. When Gary citizens dial 911, they deserve a fire department that is prepared, professional, and committed to excellence in every detail. That is the standard we are building: a stronger fire department, a higher standard, and a safer Gary!

*The bar has been raised, and we intend to keep reaching higher πŸš’πŸš‘πŸ”₯

GARY FIRE CELEBRATES EMS WEEK 2026 πŸš‘πŸš’

This week, communities across the country are celebrating National EMS Week 2026, May 17 through May 23.

⭐ IMPROVING OUTCOMES, TOGETHER! ⭐

That is this year’s national theme, and it speaks to the heart of EMS across the country: better patient care, faster response, advanced training, modern life saving equipment, and every part of the emergency care system working together.

For the Gary Fire Department, that message is personal. It means responding quickly and safely, training until critical skills become second nature, using the best tools available, and working as one team when every second matters.

From dispatch to the scene, from the ambulance to the emergency room, every role matters and every second counts.

To every EMS professional on the front line, thank you for your skill, sacrifice, dedication, and heart.

HAPPY EMS WEEK 2026! πŸš‘β€οΈπŸ”₯
