Happy Mother's Day to our mom, Trudy — Kramer Vineyards' founding winemaker.

In 1983, Mom and Dad bought a hillside of scotch broom, blackberry, oak, and fir in Gaston — no power, no water, no road. They hired a water witch to find the well. They ran the electricity in themselves. They cut the road. They planted the vineyard. They built the winery.

We grew up here, helping. We planted vines, played in the dirt, ate grapes off the vines, got poison oak, ran a slip and slide between the rows. We put up drywall and puttied nail dents as a family.

Mom came to all of this with state fair blue ribbons already on the wall — an amateur winemaker who'd been making wine at home long before there was a vineyard to make it from. When the first Kramer wines went out into the world, they were hers. She made them. She still walks the vineyard at harvest, still has opinions about every vintage, still the reason any of this exists.

Two generations of women have made the wine at Kramer Vineyards. It started with her.

We love you, Mom.

Exploring the crimson clover in our vineyard is a special experience. We particularly enjoy the picturesque scene created by the splash of red.

The 3rd generation is also a fan of the clover because it is the perfect spot to find bumblebees! 🐝
