Vineyard: The Vineyard rows face southeast and south and are planted between 250 and 450 foot elevation levels. The dominant soil type throughout the Vineyard is Melbourne,

which is formed in residuum and colluvium weathered from sedimentary rock. Melbourne soils are typically well drained. They have a surface layer of dark-brown silty clay loam. The upper part of the subsoil is dark yellowish-brown silty clay loam, and the lower part is brown silty clay. Approximately one third of the vineyard acreage is Pinot Gris, planted in 1996, with 3309 rootstock (phylloxera resistant) and 146 and 152 clone vines. The remaining acreage was plan planted with three different clones of Pinot Noir, 777, 115 and Pommard. The 777 and 115 blocks were planted in 2003, and the Pommard block was planted in 2005. All of the Pinot Noir was planted with 3309 rootstock.
