Interesting case. Shows how important it is to make sure, as a nurse, you are following policies and protocols closely and continuing to escalate up the chain of command if you are not getting the results you need.

The insured was a registered nurse (RN), who was recently hired as a per diem “float” nurse at a local community hospital. On the date of the incident, the insured RN was working in the emergency department (ED) and was assigned to a female patient in her early 40s who presented with complaints ...

Y'all, it's HOT outside... 🌞🇨🇱🌡

Did you know...children and teens adjust more slowly than adults, to changes in the environment?

Here are some ways to prevent heat-related injuries in children, this summer:

- Don't leave children alone in the car, even if the windows are cracked

- Drink plenty of fluids (water and sports drinks are great)

- Schedule vigorous activity and sports for cooler times of the day ⚾️

- Increase time spent outdoors slowly, to get your child's body used to the heat

How are you preventing heat-related illness this summer?

I'm down for having the sports during cooler times of the day! 😆⚾️

Trauma Tuesday:
Did you know, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), specifically chest compressions, are not always the priority intervention for patients with traumatic circulatory arrest?

As nurses, we are taught traditional ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), which places heavy emphasis on continuous/uninterrupted chest compressions. However, trauma guidelines are a different story....

ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) places emphasis on rapidly "stopping the bleed" and replacing lost blood volume (see the algorithm). In fact, in many cases, CPR/chest compressions will be stopped, to allow for critical procedures to take place (thoracotomy, chest tube placement, etc.). If you are familiar with ACLS (non-trauma), this goes against everything you've ever been taught, in regard to chest compressions.

Trauma is a very different animal!
Stay tuned for more education on Emergency Thoracotomy...aka "cracking a chest" in the Emergency Department! 😯

Attorney friends, you need your trauma education/information from a TRAUMA nurse expert.
