The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce was honored today to welcome Delaware Department of Transportation (Deldot) Secretary, Shante Hastings & ED Director, Jeff Van Horn to our Economic Development lunch. It was great to hear & see that after 25 years with the department that Shante and her team are working hard to put policies, procedures and programs in place that have departments talking to each other / transparency. Working also to ensure projects are moving more quickly and without issues. Her goal for the state is safety - on the roads, for bikers & pedestrians. Is it an easy job - NO!! Is she someone who understands - YES!! After all she lives in Sussex & has the same pain points as we all do, BUT things will not be fixed overnight - know she is listening, she gets it & one thing she made clear - some things have not been made easier because municipalities don’t want it, DelDot can’t force a town - whether we choose to believe it or not.

Well today at the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce breakfast we heard from not 1 but 2 speakers with some really great info! First up was Shawna Steinmann from . She shared the vision and just how many families are served from Sussex County, what a great organization!!
Next up was Mike Eppenhimer from Leadership Delaware. This is a GREAT program for future leaders in Delaware. The program covers the state and immerses fellows into all things Delaware. In addition there are other programs that are offered to ensure that Delawareans can work into leadership roles but hopefully soon will have a program to utilize retired individuals that still want to give back, so stay tuned for that!! This summer they will begin holding open houses in all 3 counties to begin the process for the LDI class for 2027!
