ELEVATE is Leadership Southern Indiana’s highly interactive leadership development series designed for professionals who want to add to their leadership toolkit, strengthen the skills they use every day and keep growing.

Throughout the series, you’ll learn from world-class facilitators on topics including Enneagram, Executive Presence, Generational Differences, Workplace Culture, Working with Complicated People, Business Ethics and Courageous Leadership.

My Thinking Chair

The idea for my Thinking Chair came straight from John Maxwell’s Thinking for a Change. He talks about creating a space where you think with purpose instead of hoping clarity will just show up.

So I started doing that. Each morning I sit in this chair to do my gratitude journal and Bible study. It’s a place where it’s just me, my Bible and IPad to write on. It’s starting the day with peace and knowing God’s got this.

Do you have a spot in your house you can do this? It’s amazing how your body and mind react by your environment.

We all face challenges/opportunities in our life especially as a leader. Came across this today and had to share this acronym: PLAN AHEAD

P - Predetermine your course of action
L - Lay out your goals
A - Adjust your priorities
N - Notify key people

A - Allow time for acceptance
H - Head into action
E - Expect problems
A - Always point to your successes (small wins)
D - Daily review of your progress

Following these will set you up for success.

What opportunity are you chasing now?

Reflection teaches you what worked.

Planning points you the right direction.

But neither moves the needle without taking action.

At the start and end of every month or even each week, it’s easy to live in the planning and reflecting. It feels productive in the moment, but there is no action actually happening.

The leaders who grow do all three but they don’t confuse thinking about the work with doing it.

What needs to happen today?

Integrity isn’t one decision. It’s every decision, checked against your values. It’s living your values instead of just talking about them.

People can tell when there’s a gap between how you act in front of them and how you act when no one’s watching. You don’t have to announce it. They just know.

Ask yourself this week:

• Are your private decisions consistent with your public ones?

• Would your team describe you the same way behind closed doors as they do to your face?

• What’s one commitment you’ve let slide?

Pick one answer. Go fix it.

Another month gone. Before you start planning the next one, actually stop and think about what moved the needle this month. Not what you meant to do. What you actually did. Growth isn't always the loud stuff either. Half the time it's just showing up on the days you didn't want to. So what are you actually proud of this month?

I’m not sure words can fully capture how proud I am of this cohort. Last night we closed out the six‑week Launch & Scale series with the business showcase, and each entrepreneur presented their work and where they’re headed next. The growth from week one to now is real. Confidence, clarity, and momentum.

Train your team with intention.

Model
Show the task. Let them watch you work.

Mentor
Explain the why. Consistency builds confidence.

Monitor
Watch them perform. Encourage. Then have them explain the what and the why.

Motivate
Step back. Let them improve the process. Learn from their approach.

Multiply
Have them teach someone else. Teaching locks in mastery.

This is how leaders build capability, confidence, and momentum — one intentional step at a time.
