🗣️ Developmental Speech & Language Milestones: 6–9 Months

We’re continuing our Developmental Speech & Language Milestones Video Series at Strive! 💙 In this series, our speech therapists break down important developmental milestones by age range to help families know what to look for as their little ones grow.

In our third video, De’Andrea Magee, HTX Speech Therapy Supervisor at Strive, walks us through some milestones you may see from 6 to 9 months, including:

👋 Gives objects upon request, such as “Give me…”
💬 Says “mama” or “dada” meaningfully
🐮 Imitates non-speech sounds, such as “moo” or “vroom-vroom”
🚫 Responds to “no-no”
🗣️ Says a first word
🥤 Drinks from a cup and begins experimenting with finger foods

Every child develops at their own pace, but understanding developmental milestones can help parents and caregivers recognize how their child is learning, communicating, and connecting with the world around them.
