Last week at Launchpad Job Club, someone told me, “I’ve applied for over 250 jobs. I know there must be a hidden job market, but I don’t know where it is.”
People love talking about the “hidden job market.”

As if there’s a secret website that only recruiters know about.
There isn’t.

The hidden job market is simply made up of conversations that happen before a job is ever posted.

Managers ask trusted employees.
Recruiters call people in their network.
Former coworkers recommend someone they respect.
LinkedIn connections introduce talented professionals.

None of that is hidden.
Most job seekers simply aren’t participating.

Networking has changed.
It’s no longer collecting business cards or attending events hoping to meet someone important.

Today, networking means intentionally building relationships, asking thoughtful questions, staying visible on LinkedIn, and making it easy for people to think of you when opportunities arise.

One introduction can change everything.
One conversation can lead to an interview that never appears online.

In SCORE Your Next Job, I’ll show you a repeatable networking system that removes much of the awkwardness people associate with networking. You’ll learn how to reconnect with former colleagues, use LinkedIn more effectively, and build genuine professional relationships that often uncover opportunities long before they’re advertised.

The hidden job market isn’t hidden.
It’s simply waiting for you to step into it.

I’d love to help you get there.

“I’m Too Old.”

After 25 years of coaching, I’ve learned something surprising.

Most job seekers don’t struggle with resumes.
They struggle with confidence.

I hear the same concerns every week:
“I’m too old.”
“I’m changing careers.”
“I’m not technical.”

Here’s what I believe.

If you’re not too old to contribute, you’re not too old to build a meaningful career.

If you’re changing careers, your experience still matters.
If you’re not technical, you can still learn to use AI as a practical career tool.

Your next opportunity starts with believing something better is possible.
I’d love to help you get there.

The right employer may already be looking for someone like you. Let’s make sure they can find you.

One of my executive clients spent nearly a year applying for Government Affairs positions.

Almost nothing.

When we stepped back, another story emerged.
He had years of experience working with engineers on data center issues – energy, water, cooling systems –and had spent his job search learning about AI.

We changed his target.
We repositioned his LinkedIn profile.
We pared down his experience – to only include data center work.

The result?
✔️ Three interviews a week.
✔️ A new position.
✔️ A 32% salary increase.

His experience didn’t change.
His message did.

Sometimes your next opportunity begins by telling a different story.

That’s exactly what we do in SCORE Your Next Job. Will you join us?

Three weeks ago, I started applying for jobs myself.

I found several openings for a Career Advisor and thought, “Perfect—that’s exactly what I do.”

Then I got... nothing.

Working with ChatGPT, I discovered something important. The title Career Advisor often signals an entry-level coaching role. It didn’t accurately reflect my experience.

I changed my target job title.
Within two weeks, I had two interviews.
One small change made a huge difference.

Your target job title is your professional headline. If it’s too low, recruiters think you’re overqualified. Too high, and they assume you’re not a fit.

In SCORE Your Next Job, I’ll show you how to use AI to research the right titles, industries, and companies for your experience.
Sometimes the breakthrough isn’t your resume.
It’s your target.

SCORE Your Next Job begins August 15. I’d love to help you find yours.

Recruiters Notice These 3 Things First

I’ve reviewed thousands of resumes over the past 25+ years.
Most recruiters decide whether to keep reading in about 10–15 seconds.

Here’s what they’re looking for:

1️⃣ Can I immediately tell what this person does?
If your professional brand isn’t obvious, they’ll move on.

2️⃣ Does this person solve problems?
Responsibilities are expected.
Results get interviews.

3️⃣ Does this resume make me want to know more?
A resume isn’t supposed to tell your entire story.
Its job is to earn the conversation.

These sound like small details.
They aren’t.
Together, they determine whether your resume lands in the interview pile—or quietly disappears.

That’s one of the first skills we tackle in SCORE Your Next Job.
I’ll show you how recruiters think, what employers are really buying, and how to present yourself as the candidate they remember.

📅 Starts Saturday, August 15
I’d love to coach you.

If your hard work isn’t producing interviews, maybe it’s time for a different strategy. Link in bio.

Why Good People Stay Unemployed Too Long
When I became a career coach more than 25 years ago, finding a job was almost simple.

✔ Polish your resume.
✔ Answer an ad.
✔ Shake a few hands.

If you had solid experience, you usually found work.
Today?

I’ve met talented professionals who have submitted 200...300...even 500 applications with little to show for it.

They’re exhausted.
They’re discouraged.
They’re beginning to wonder if they’re the problem.
They’re not.

The rules have changed.
Recruiters use AI.

Applicant Tracking Systems screen resumes before a human ever sees them.
LinkedIn has become your professional reputation.
Networking matters more than ever.
Working harder isn’t always the answer.
Working smarter is.

That’s why I created SCORE Your Next Job—a practical, five-week program that teaches professionals how to market themselves in today’s job market.
📅 Saturdays beginning August 15
⏰ 10:00–11:15 AM
Bonus: Live Coaching Sessions every Monday evening at 7:00 PM.

If your search has stalled, perhaps you don’t need to work harder.
Perhaps you simply need a better strategy.
I’d love to help.
