In 2017, Hurricane Irma devastated a significant portion of our island, including the public library. As a seven-year-old resident, I've taken on the mission of collecting books and raising funds to support the reconstruction of our beloved library.
Public libraries play a crucial role by providing access to books and education for everyone on the island. These books not only nurture a passion for learning but also spark creativity, contributing to the overall development of our community.
Our objective is to donate 1000 books to the St. Maarten Public Library. If you're on the island and wish to contribute, please reach out to us via WhatsApp at +1-802-578-4769. For those off the island who want to send books, we've partnered with a cargo company that delivers weekly to the island. The shipping address is as follows:
Panayiota Okeefe
c/o The William Book Project
7640 NW 63rd St, Miami, FL 33195
Please send us a message if you are sending books by mail and a tracking number if you have one.
We welcome new and gently-used books for both children and adults. Books in English, French, Dutch, and Spanish are all accepted. Your support will make a meaningful impact on the restoration of our community's access to literature and education.
We'll be making the first delivery of books to the library after the Fall school break.
