Full disclosure. I had never been to a cross country meet before today. I had no idea what to expect when I pulled into the parking lot at Golden Gate Park Brookville. It was raining and muddy, but kids of all ages from Kindergarteners to high school seniors ran like their shoes were on fire. They were fast, strong, and resilient. I saw teammates cheering for one another, and one could be overheard yelling, "If you can't run, then walk! Don't stop, you've got this!" There was a mom who cheered for every single kid who ran by her, even the ones straggling and struggling at the end. She didn't know their names but she called out the school names on their jerseys and encouraged them to keep going. The camaraderie was like a living, breathing entity. This was an experience that taught me three things: (1) don't let your age stop you no matter how old or young you are (2) don't ever give up (3) you're stronger than you think you are.

A sporting event is more than what happens on the field. It's the spirit shop filled with sweatshirts and T-shirts. It's the concession stand with hot dogs and popcorn. It's meeting up with friends and loved ones while the kids run around laughing. It's the band playing their instruments and waving their flags. It's the cheerleaders engaging the crowd. It's the student section yelling their lungs out and dressed up in that night's theme. It's the coaches calling plays, the teachers catching up, and the little boys (and girls!) on the sidelines dreaming of the day they themselves will get a chance to play under the Friday night lights. Soccer Media Day. The weather alternated between cloudy and sunny but that didn't keep us from getting some fab photos.

Buddy pics, aka pictures with friends, always feel like a celebration of sorts, like a stamp of approval that says "You are my people." And that? I'm there for it.

I've been working with a middle school volleyball team for their photos, and this cutie arrived early to one of our meet ups so we had time for a few extra shots before practice. I love how these turned out!

Fighter. That's the word that comes to mind when I watch this player out on the field. She never, ever gives up. Whether it's up at bat when the odds are against her and the count is full or she's locked in at second base and sprinting full speed to cover first, this baller hones in on one thing: Do her job, and do it well. And that, my friends, is how it's done.
