All aboard the NIGHT TRAIN! 🚂💨🎶

We had the distinct pleasure and honor of being commissioned to create the brand identity for the inaugural Night Train Gala, to be held Saturday, April 29, 2023, in celebration of the Stax Museum of American Soul Music’s 20th Anniversary, which is now the Soulsville Foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year, fashioned to replace the beloved Staxtacular event that raised over $1 million over ten years.

It’ll be a lavish party reminiscent of the days when the primary means of travel was by rail, and Pullman Porters traveled with Black Americans from coast to coast. A celebration of African American music and culture, it will feature the Stax Museum filled with live music, a silent auction, delectable cuisine, signature cocktails, dancing, DJs, and more, all in their newly renovated lobby, gift shop, and mid-century modern lounge, as well as Studio A, Isaac Hayes’ gold-trimmed Cadillac exhibit, and other spaces.

WHAT: Night Train Fundraising Gala
WHEN: Saturday, April 29, 2023, 7 PM to Midnight
WHERE: Stax Museum of American Soul Music
HOW MUCH: $200 Per Person

In this clip, from an interview with Memphis Hip-Hop recording artist Jucee Froot from Transparent with Yulissa Delgado on TASTE RADIO via Dash Radio, Jucee Froot recalls recording her first record. What stands out to us about this clip is that the Memphis artist on the rise acknowledged the Memphis producers who helped her craft her first record. Jucee recalls working with Chiccen, and the other person she couldn't remember off hand is LC, also known as , and they are the founders of the Memphis production team . Sweat Da Trac has been behind the production of numerous recording artists from Memphis and beyond for many years now and is still at it. Some would say they are legends in these Memphis streets, and we would have to agree. It's refreshing to see one Memphis creative mentioning another Memphis creative when they have the platform to do so. Our takeaway is those on the rise should use their platform when possible to acknowledge and spotlight the people who helped them along the way. No one "made it" on their own, and it doesn't diminish your talent to salute those behind the scenes that helped you on the way up. Someone once said, "Dead people receive more flowers than the living ones because regret is stronger than gratitude." Let's uplift each other and rise together! Salute to all the Memphis creatives out here getting it!

How It Started vs. How It's Going
-
On Wednesday, February 12, 2020, while Rodd Bland discussed the idea of releasing his passion project with Wheat Robinson of Street Savvy Unlimited and Robinson Greer Agency (RGA), Wheat came up with a way they could pay tribute to his father the “Lion of the Blues" visually that would be an excellent pairing with the musical tribute.

The cover artwork for the debut live EP entitled Live on Beale Street: A Tribute to Bobby "Blue" Bland by Rodd Bland and the Members Only Band is a visual tribute paying homage to the cover artwork for the 1985 Bobby "Blue" Bland Malaco Music Group release Members Only, his first LP on the label, with photography by Paul White and graphic design by Phil Allen. 🚪🔑💙

Want to know more about drummer and bandleader Rodd Bland? We at Street Savvy Unlimited and Robinson Greer Agency (RGA) suggest you check out the feature in the July/August issue of Living Blues Magazine, where you will find the David Whiteis penned article with the Memphis based drummer. Rodd shares fond memories from his childhood with his father and legendary Bluesman Bobby "Blue" Bland, how he started drumming, and how his debut live EP honoring his father, known as his passion project, came together. The article also features photos from our very own ShotByKG. 📖🥁💙

The July/August issue of Living Blues Magazine is only the third in their history to be dedicated to drummers. Living Blues looks at the crucial roles played by Blues drummers, including the first two female drummers they have ever covered. The ten artists featured anchor the backbeat of the genre. Artists also featured include Jamiesa Turner, Joe “Iceman” Williams, GREG Gordon, Joseph “Lil’ Joe” Frenchwood, Andrew Blaze Thomas, James Carter, Sheryl Youngblood, Cornelius “CG” Green, and June Core.
