We are saddened to announce the passing of Life Member Tom Voorhis. Tom faithfully served the fire company for many years rising to the rank of Assistant Chief as well as serving on the Executive Board for many years as the Financial Secretary.

Today members attended Gibbsboro Elementary School annual Field Day. We always have fun attending this event. We do think the students really enjoyed the water on this hot day.

The unofficial start to Summer is here. Maybe rainy but we like to remind everyone to have a safe Memorial Day weekend. As you travel to the shore or have your barbecue, do it safely.

We also ask that you take a moment this weekend, especially on Monday to remember what this weekend is truly about, remembering those that paid the ultimate price for our country and our freedom. Join us Monday morning as the Borough honors those brave men and women at our parade and services.

Today we remember the life of Firefighter Bill Gerace. A dedicated member of the fire company who made the ultimate sacrifice.

On April 10, as he was advancing hose line during mandatory live burn training, Firefighter Gerace suffered a spiral fracture to his right fibula. On April 28, Firefighter Gerace's spouse contacted 911 from Gerace's residence as he was showing signs of severe respiratory difficulty. Upon the arrival of emergency responders, Firefighter Gerace stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest. He was immediately transported to a local hospital with EMS performing CPR. CPR was continued at the hospital and, after approximately 20 minutes, doctors pronounced him deceased. Autopsy results showed that he suffered a pulmonary embolism, which was directly attributed to being a complication of his initial leg fracture and recovery process.
