The impacts of the fires that went through the Spokane area are far from over. Hundreds of local firefighters dropped what they were doing and bravely headed out to help others. In some cases, their own homes were evacuated, damaged, or destroyed.

Anyone can help donate to the Spokane area firefighters who were personally impacted by the fires.

Donations to the Spokane Firefighters Local 29 Benevolent Fund will go directly toward food and lodging for displaced WSCFF members and their families, regardless of their local affiliation. Local 29 will distribute the funds among all WSCFF members who need assistance during this difficult time.

We're asking our fire service family and communities across Washington to please consider donating to the Local 29 Benevolent Fund and help support our impacted members.

Gig Harbor now has more lifesaving AEDs in public spaces thanks to partnership between the Gig Harbor Firefighters Association and the City.

When someone experiences cardiac arrest, their best chance of survival includes early CPR and early defibrillation.

This donation by the Firefighters Association of four Automated External Defibrillators, along with temperature controlled outdoor housing units for each unit, have been installed at Crescent Creek Park, Doris Heritage Park, Donkey Creek Park, and Skansie Brothers Park.

“Investments that increase the accessibility of emergency-readiness resources, like AEDs in public spaces, contribute to the health and safety of our community overall.” - Gig Harbor Mayor Mary Barber

The association's primary goal is to find meaningful ways to use our nonprofit status to give back to the community beyond the emergency services we provide at work.

Time matters during a cardiac event and high-quality bystander CPR massively increases odds of survival. Anyone is welcome to take a CPR class to learn the skills needed to save a life. Every firefighter has someone they look up to. Ours just happen to fly.

By now, you've probably heard about yesterday's brush fire in Gig Harbor.

It was an incredible display of local aerial firefighting.

Two different DNR-funded helicopters dropped tens of thousands of gallons of water on a difficult-to-access cliff south of the airport.

While not nearly as glamorous, we stretched hundreds, or maybe a thousand, feet of wildland hose and spent hours cutting through blackberries to make sure the job was finished on the ground.

Our members remained on scene for most of the day and into the night to ensure life and property were protected.

Enjoy today, have fun, spend time with friends and family, and stay safe out there. We'll be here if you need us. 🇺🇸

Several Gig Harbor firefighters are returning home from a multi-incident wildland deployment protecting life and property in eastern Washington. The call for help from our distant neighbors came in, and they answered. “The resilience, compassion, and support shown by so many will not be forgotten.” Says Lt Cochrane of Local 3390, working as a Strike Team Leader on the Upriver Fire in Spokane.

Deployments help your firefighters gain valuable skills and experience, while not impacting staffing levels back home in the Harbor. Expenses and costs are reimbursed to the department by the state and federal government, and the department often earns some revenue for vehicle utilization. It’s a win for firefighters and a win for GIg Harbor residents. Pictured here: The South Puget Strike Team June 2026

Recently back from the IAFF 7th District’s New Member Conference:
Zane Holland, Will Flanagan, and Aya Crippen had an excellent opportunity to learn about the Unions’s history, purpose, direction, and the importance of protecting each other. The conference is for members with 5 or less years on the job and is held annually in eastern Washington. Well done team!

International Firefighters' Day was celebrated this week. We know, we're pretty great 😏. But we want to highlight all the folks working behind the scenes. Without our hardworking and trusted mechanic staff, the wheels wouldn't turn. THANK YOU for keeping us response ready for the community we serve.
