Ever find yourself discounting your services before a client even asks? You’re not negotiating with clients: you’re negotiating with your own insecurities. Years ago, I was convinced my pricing was too high. My mentor told me, “Stop imparting your cheapness on your clients.” I took his advice and raised rates by 20%: no pushback. We didn’t lose business. We actually gained it. When you charge a premium, you deliver a premium. Your ideal clients know it and value your expertise more.

Discounts are a slippery slope: they lower your perceived value and invite haggling forever. If you want to give something, offer a one-time bonus: not a forever markdown. It's amazing how much profit you can uncover just by kicking the tires on your operating expenses. Every MSP owner should ask these three questions every year:

1️⃣ Still need it?
2️⃣ Can we get it for free?
3️⃣ Can we get it for less?

A little digging pays off: recently, I cut my internet bill by 75% and doubled the speed with a single call. Those nickels and dimes add up and every dollar you save drops straight to the bottom line. Don’t just accept last year’s expenses as “the norm.”

A few years back, I coached a youth soccer team that never won a game their first season. I wanted to give every kid a chance and thought that was what mattered most. But I realized: unless we started winning, there wouldn't be a team for anyone to play on. So we raised the bar, set clear goals, and started winning. Suddenly, the kids had fun, parents were proud, and more kids wanted to join.

Business works the same way. Profit = winning: and winning means you’re able to help more people, grow your impact, and give back even more. Profit isn’t a dirty word. It’s the fuel that lets you take care of your employees, support your community, and build a legacy.
