I recently had a few more orders for pedal mods and builds, so I decided to give the items I build an official name. I am going to call the company Silverhammer, so every instrument, effect and whatever else I build will now carry the Silverhammer logo or name. I am excited to lay out here a few of my new effects that will be available for order. (LtoR) in the individual pictures is my Shakedown Street Envelope Filter (based on the mutronIII) the Silverhammer A/B Switch and the The Pusher Unity Gain Buffer(just like Jerry Garcia) there will be more to come. I working on getting some proper sounding sound samples

I decided to build a overdrive pedal based on the ibanez tube screamer, some of the things I don't like about the tube screamer is that it can have to much midrange and make it sound muddy especially with chords. So my goal was to clean up that sound, which means I would probably lose a little gain but I don't think it would be very noticeable (it wasn't). I looked all over at what people were doing to mod out their tube screamer and decided what I was going to try. (I only have an idea of what I hope it would sound like) I went ahead and did the old fashioned point to point wiring, loaded it in a box to see if it worked and to my amazement it sounds better than I could have planed. this is one of the cleanest overdrives I have ever heard. I will be posting a sound clip soon. If your interested in one I will have them available for purchase

Well, I'm gonna pass on some information that you may or may not know, is that every professional musicians instrument and EFFECT pedals have been either professionally built or modded. I mean EVERYONE. I'll give a couple of examples, Eric Clapton's strat is custom built by 1 master luthier. Here is another not so well known example the "Les Paul" that Slash played on appetite for destruction was built by a master luthier in L.A. not Gibson even though it says that on the headstock. Which brings me to the next subject of custom effect pedals and the most modded pedal in the biz the Crybaby GCB95 Wah pedal (the Vox is also highly modded) every Wah pedal you ever heard on a record has been modded in some form or fashion, everyone. Crybaby's and Vox's are notorious tone suckers, so usually the first mod everyone does is give it true bypass after that, well the sky's the limit. Original Crybaby's were made in Italy with the famous fasel inductor( that inductor alone makes a HUGE difference) and the schematic has changed over the years leading to modding the pedal seeking the best sound. In the pictures you can see that the top circuit board is my modded Crybaby with fasel inductor and modded tone pot. The bottom circuit board is 90% stock but you can clearly see the difference without having to know about electronics. The point being is that don't be fooled by ads and commercials the pros play custom gear not off the shelf.

My next project was to add a couple channels to my single channel Jet city head. One channel would be a clean boost, because the amp now can have a little too much mid-range at times. The other channel would be an overdrive boost similar to a tube screamer. Adding these channels will give a little more versatility to this already great amp. Check out the photos of the modification. When this was all done it came out better than I expected.

My friend Mike Flavor of jellyhead asked if I would make him a A/B switch for his Gibson Les Paul & ES so he didn't have to unplug them in between songs, So In typical Max fashion I built him a pimp one, worthy of any professional. When I first built it I put it in a plastic box (dumb to noisy!) then I went to an aluminum box and no noise.

The next project on my list was a unity gain buffer( A UGB switches the high z signal to a low z signal to help with signal loss do to cable length and multiple effect pedals) You would not believe how much of your signal is lost from the capacitance of your instrument cables

So, Over the last few months I have been collecting old tube amp organs and stripping them down for their parts to build guitar amplifiers. I still need some more organs(give me your organs)to Finnish those projects. So I set my sights on something a little smaller, effect pedals. The first pedal I built is a clone of a DOD EF 440 envelope filter(auto wah) I found the preprinted circuit board online and just sourced the rest of the parts, now for the cool part this pedal only cost a quarter of what the real one cost ($20 vs $80) needless to say this one pedal opened the flood gates to pedal builds and mods (you need to have a decent knowledge of electronics to build these. any question feel free to ask)

Ok, So it's been awhile since I've been on facebook, so let me catch you up. I got laid off from my job about 3 months ago for the first time in 20 years, which sucks and is a blessing all at the same time, the nice thing is I've got to catch up on a lot of side projects which I plan on sharing with everyone. I also already found another job(you can't keep a good man down). So over the next 6 or 7 post I'll be showing all the cool stuff I've been building and modding over the past 3 months I hope you like it.
