This morning we heard from Karisa Peterson with German American Bank, who shared a little about what sets German American apart and, more importantly, how she helps local businesses grow.

Karisa brings 34 years of banking experience, with most of that time spent in commercial lending. One thing that stood out is the local approach German American takes to business banking. Many lending decisions are made right here in the region, giving Karisa the ability to work directly with business owners and understand what they are trying to accomplish.

Whether a business is looking to expand, purchase property or equipment, refinance, or simply find better ways to manage deposits and payments, Karisa can help find the right solution. She also shared some great reminders about fraud prevention, including watching accounts closely, protecting your information, and using chip or tap instead of swiping whenever possible.

A great referral for Karisa is a business owner who says, "We're ready to expand," "We need to buy a location," or even, "I just need a lender who will listen and return my calls." With Karisa, that last one is especially important. She has built her career around relationships, not just transactions.

Karisa is also a charter member of our BNI chapter and has been part of this group for all 16 years. We're fortunate to have that kind of experience, consistency, and commitment represented in our chapter.

This morning, John McMillen Jr. with Premier Home Repair & Remodel, LLC used his 10-minute presentation to share some valuable advice for anyone considering a home renovation or remodeling project.

One fact that may surprise many homeowners is that Kentucky does not have a statewide general contractor license. While certain trades require licensing, requirements for general contractors and remodelers can vary by city and county. John got his start in California, where contractor requirements are much stricter, and he has carried that same attention to professionalism into his work here in Kentucky. Premiere Home Repair & Remodeling is insured and is also a member of the Barren County Contractors Association.

John spent much of his presentation helping us understand how homeowners can protect themselves when hiring a contractor. Large upfront deposits, lowball estimates followed by expensive change orders, poor communication, abandoned jobs, and reluctance to provide a written agreement can all be warning signs.

One of his biggest recommendations was simple: get everything in writing. A well-formed contract should clearly define the scope of work, price and payment schedule, start and completion dates, how changes will be handled, warranty information, and proof of insurance. John's goal is "no surprises" for either the homeowner or the contractor.

When it comes to referrals, John isn't looking to compete for the cheapest job. Premiere Home Repair & Remodeling is focused on homeowners who value quality, craftsmanship, and service. A great referral might be someone who recently purchased an older home, a family that has outgrown its current space, or someone who loves their neighborhood but needs their home to work better for the way they live today.

As John put it, listen for those moments when a home stops fitting the family. That's when Premiere Home Repair & Remodeling can help turn the house they already love into a home that fits them again.

We appreciate John taking the time to educate our chapter and share some practical advice that can help homeowners make better decisions when choosing a contractor.

For 16 years, Joe Myers with Kentucky Farm Bureau has been a part of our BNI chapter, and this morning he used his 10-minute presentation to remind us that having insurance and having the right insurance are two very different things.

Joe framed his presentation around three phone calls he regularly receives. The first is the exciting call from someone who just bought a new home, car, boat, or other major purchase. The second is someone asking, "Can you look at this for me?" after a rate increase or when they aren't sure their current coverage still fits their needs.

Then there's the third call: "I've had better days."

That's the call after an accident, loss, or claim when someone needs more than an insurance policy. They need a person they know and trust to answer the phone and help them through a stressful situation. As Joe explained, he doesn't see his job as simply selling insurance. It's helping people prepare for the bad days before they happen.

That focus on personal relationships has been a big part of Joe's career with Kentucky Farm Bureau, an organization that has been serving Kentuckians since the 1940s. It's also something Joe carries throughout our community. In addition to his work with Farm Bureau and his 16 years as a charter member of our BNI chapter, many people know Joe as the voice of the Scotties, broadcasting Glasgow football games on the radio and staying actively involved throughout our community.

One of Joe's closing thoughts summed up his presentation perfectly: insurance is something people hope they never need, but relationships are something they always need.

We're thankful for Joe's many years of commitment to our chapter and for the relationships he continues to build throughout Glasgow and Barren County.

This morning, we had the opportunity to hear from our newest member, Jeffrey Fields with Pulse Arc Solutions, during his 10-minute presentation at BNI.

Pulse Arc Solutions is a local, veteran-owned business, and Jeff brings more than 25 years of welding experience to our community. After serving as a welder in the U.S. Navy and spending years in industrial welding, including time as a superintendent, Jeff launched Pulse Arc Solutions with a commitment to doing the job right the first time.

Throughout his presentation, Jeff emphasized that quality, integrity, and reliability are more than just words. They are the foundation of his business. His goal is to provide honest communication, safe repairs, quality materials, and craftsmanship that lasts, without taking shortcuts.

Pulse Arc Solutions offers MIG, TIG, stick, aluminum, stainless, and mobile welding, along with custom fabrication and repairs for farmers, manufacturers, contractors, fleet owners, trailers, heavy equipment, and light industrial businesses. Whether it's repairing a critical piece of equipment or fabricating a custom solution, Jeff takes pride in helping keep businesses and operations moving.

One point that really stood out was Jeff's reminder that the best referral isn't just a welding job, it's an introduction. If you know someone who owns a manufacturing business, manages industrial property, operates a trucking company, owns heavy equipment, or needs custom fabrication or welding, Jeff would love the opportunity to build that relationship.

We're excited to welcome Jeff to our BNI chapter and look forward to seeing the impact Pulse Arc Solutions will have in our community. We're glad to have him as part of the team.

Every real estate closing has a lot happening behind the scenes, and this morning Jamie McFarlin with Foreman Watson Land Title LLC of Glasgow gave us a great look at everything that takes place from contract to close.

Jamie walked us through the title process, explaining the many steps involved in making sure buyers receive a clear title before closing. From researching property records and resolving title issues to attorney review, coordinating the closing, recording documents, and issuing the final title policy, there is an incredible amount of work that happens long before anyone signs at the closing table.

She also shared that every file is attorney-reviewed throughout the process, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail every step of the way. It's easy to think of a title company as the place where you sign paperwork, but Jamie reminded us that they're working diligently behind the scenes to help protect one of the biggest investments most people will ever make.

Beyond her work with Foreman Watson Land Title, Jamie is also deeply invested in our community. She is actively involved with several local organizations and regularly organizes donation drives through her office to support local charities and families in need. Her commitment to serving others is evident both inside and outside the workplace.

We appreciate Jamie taking the time to share her knowledge with our chapter this morning. If you know a realtor, lender, auction company, FSBO seller, or anyone buying or selling property, Jamie and the team at Foreman Watson Land Title are an excellent resource to help guide them through the process with confidence.

This morning, we had the opportunity to hear from James N Jill Ford with Ford's HVAC during his 10-minute presentation at BNI.

One of the things that stood out most wasn't a specific service or product, but the culture James has built within his company. He shared that he's genuinely happy to go to work each day because of the technicians he gets to work alongside. Having a team with a great attitude and a good sense of humor creates an environment that not only makes work enjoyable, but also translates into a better experience for their customers.

James also talked about the different ways Ford's HVAC serves our community, from residential and commercial HVAC service and installation to insulation and today's increasingly popular mini-split systems. He explained how mini-splits can provide efficient heating and cooling by conditioning only the spaces you need, helping homeowners stay comfortable while reducing energy usage.

Another point James emphasized was how much customer feedback means to their team. Their outstanding Google reviews are a reflection of the pride they take in providing quality service and building lasting relationships with the people they serve.

We're grateful to have James and Ford's HVAC as part of our BNI chapter. If you know someone looking for an HVAC company that values great service, a strong team, and taking care of their customers, we'd be happy to make the introduction.

A big thank you to Drew Thompson with Lockshield Partners Financial Services for sharing his 10 minute presentation with us this morning at BNI. Drew shared more about his “why,” the experiences that led him into accounting, and how those experiences shape the way he serves small business owners today.

Growing up, Drew faced some important choices about his future. Those experiences gave him a desire to help other business owners have the tools, guidance, and information they need to succeed. Today, that means going beyond simply handling payroll and taxes and serving as a trusted business advisor to his clients.

Lockshield Accounting is focused on working with small businesses that are in growth mode. Drew believes in quality over quantity, building strong relationships with his clients, and maintaining communication throughout the entire year, not just when tax season rolls around.

That commitment to small businesses and our community has earned Lockshield Accounting recognition as Best of the Barrens in 2026 and recognition through the Barren Inc. Small Business Awards.

We appreciate Drew taking the time to share more about his story and the heart behind Lockshield Accounting. His commitment to helping small business owners grow and succeed makes him a valuable resource for our community, and we’re thankful to have him as part of our BNI chapter.
