Millions of people serve in leadership roles and a large majority of them got there for all of the wrong reasons. Whether thrust into leadership roles because they were simply "next in line" or it was"their turn" or the noble reason that they were the hardest worker on the team - none of these mean they were or are equipped to lead others.

The second half of this quote by Coach Krzyzewski's is "but it's the occupation that transcends every other occupation."

It is sometimes said that some people are "natural-born" leaders, but the truth is, the types of leaders the world badly needs are those that others WANT to follow, not HAVE to follow.

We recently worked with a client with a tendency of overstaffing when the economics of their industry were strong but experienced heavy turnover (voluntary and involuntary) as growth in their industry slowed. The problem was that they assumed they needed more staff to meet demand in the busier times when what they really needed to do was address inefficiencies in team performance. Constant misunderstandings between teammates, an imbalance in perceived urgency between two departments and a misaligned system of leadership support and challenge were identified as the key problems. The fix wasn't overnight, but the first 100 days of our engagement started them on a path to better performance, increased net revenue and dramatically reduced turnover.

Your leaders don’t need more information, they need more cultivation

2 - send them to LinkedIn learning
Learning without structure, plan, or cultivation leads means they will do nothing. LinkedIn learning itself is not the problem - a lack of process is the problem.

3 - do it for them
