What is the last step in ensuring that your personal growth is not inconsistent, haphazard, or lacks structure?
In previous posts, I covered step 1 (Make growth a priority) and step 2 (think of growth like a muscle)
Step 3: Build a growth plan
To be successful with personal growth, you need to build a personalized growth plan that works for you.
My growth plan works for me – but will not work for you.
John Maxwell’s growth plan works for him – but will not work for me or you.
Each of us have different personalities and strengths – and those will require a different growth plan than someone else that has a personality different than our own or varied strengths.
Therefore, you need a personalized growth plan.
In developing your growth plan – you will choose what you want to do with your growth time - the items you choose to accomplish during your growth time will be different than mine.
In developing your growth plan – the topics you choose to grow in for both your skill and choice categories will be different based on your desired future positions and your likes/hobbies.
In developing your growth plan – the methods that you may want to use to teach others what you are learning will be different than mine.
All those differences are ok – because you are developing something that works for you so you can get the greatest reward for your time spent.
If I gave you my plan you would give up in a week – not because it is hard – just because it was not designed for you specifically.
So take the time to develop your own plan and then tweak it for your specific situation. It won’t be perfect the first time you write it down – that is ok. Tweak it for the first two months and you will have it exactly where you want it.
