Swarms in July at 7am? Looked out the window while having morning coffee and they were in the air over the apiary... landed on a tall w**d in the vegetable garden. Probably came out of one of my 5 frame nucs made up about a month ago to overwinter. You could also convince me that this maybe an ascond too... put 15 mls of Apiguard on them 4 days ago.

Tiny bee on a tiny dill flower. Cant forget about all pollinators and not just honey bees. There is a bee for every flower.

Advanced queen marking tip! Here is a 2023 queen with the orginal paint.... survived 2 winters without swarming in the Keepers Hive. Notice where the paint remains. Best place to mark a queen is on her lower thorax next to the abdomen... the paint tends to remain in that space the longest.

A day old grafted virgin queen! One way to spot a virgin is that its thorax is always hairless compared to workers and drones whose thorax has hair. You want virgins with a wide thorax.... virgin thorax measurement correlates well with final weight of mated queen. We strive to have our Keepers Hive queens weigh as close to 300 milligrams as possible
