Happy Birthday to Luke Waldrop! 🎉

If you're in Huntsville, Luke's the one keeping your route running. He's our event and route driver and for a year and a half he's been the guy who just shows up. Overtime? Never a complaint and if we've got an event, you can bet Luke's working it.

And he's not just part of the crew, he's been dating our daughter for over two years now, so he's family too.

Etowah County dealt with ice in January and lots of rain in June. Neither one was a hurricane and that is why we don’t use one forecast as the only signal to prepare.

We all watch the tropics this time of year. And this year, the forecast gives us some good news. Colorado State University’s final August update calls for a well-below-normal season with 9 named storms, 4 hurricanes, and 1 major hurricane.

We hope it stays that way, but a quiet hurricane season does not mean your property gets a quiet year of weather. Stay alert because we saw that firsthand in June.

Heavy rain brought flash flooding across Etowah County. Trees and power lines came down. Drainage systems struggled to keep up. When something like that happens, you are no longer thinking about the seasonal forecast.

You are asking:

Who can get here?
Who has a dumpster available?
Who can bring in portable sanitation?
Who has the equipment and crew to help us get this property operational again?

That is not the time you want to start searching for phone numbers.

One thing I have learned in this business is that the companies that recover fastest usually did some of the work before the storm ever arrived. Gauge delivered one of our ADA units to Megan Bridges, the owner of Papillon Place Wellness Center in Jacksonville & was able to catch up with her on site & ask her a few questions.

Sand Mountain Amphitheater sold roughly 6,000 tickets for a show last weekend. We had trailers on site sized for a normal night of about 3,000.

So we added 13 units. Two days out.

Nobody panicked because we'd already talked through what we'd do if the number moved. That conversation is most of the job.

Here's what people get wrong: you don't size restrooms off your ticket total. You size off the most people standing on the grounds at one time. A three-day festival that sells 9,000 tickets might only have 5,000 out there Saturday night. Size to Saturday night.

Ganon Pointer laid out the whole thing. PSAI counts, the alcohol and heat adjustment, why ADA is figured at every bank instead of event-wide, what Alabama actually requires, and how early to book.
