Spray Tip Capacity Plays an Important Role in Effective Spraying.

Spray tip capacity is directly related to the size of the tip exit or***ce, which has a major influence on the droplet spectrum produced during an application.

In general, larger or***ce openings create a thicker liquid sheet, resulting in coarser droplets than smaller openings operating at the same pressure.

That’s why proper spray tip capacity selection matters. Finding the right balance between flow rate and droplet size helps improve application accuracy, enhance target coverage, reduce drift potential, and maximize overall spraying efficiency.

Choosing the correct spray tip is not just about applying the right rate; it’s about delivering the right droplets to the right target under the right conditions.

Wind Speed Has a Major Impact on Spray Drift. 🌬️

Wind speed and direction are two of the most important factors to monitor during any spray application.

Higher wind speeds can carry smaller droplets farther off-target, increasing drift potential and the risk of damage to surrounding areas. Coarser droplets are generally less affected by wind, helping improve application control.

When wind is blowing toward sensitive areas, it is best to delay the application to help prevent off-target movement.

In general, a wind speed range of 3 to 10 MPH is often considered more favorable for spraying, depending on the product label and field conditions.

Application Volume Affects Drift Control. 🎯

Application volume plays an important role in spray performance and drift potential.

→ Low-volume applications typically require spray tips that produce very fine to fine droplets to help improve coverage. However, these smaller droplets are more prone to drift.
→ Higher-volume applications typically use spray tips that produce medium to ultra-coarse droplets, which are more resistant to drift and help improve application safety.

Selecting the right droplet size for your application helps balance coverage, drift control, and overall performance. Talk to your TeeJet® representative to determine which spray tips are best suited for your operation.

Sprayer Travel Speed Affects Drift Control. 🚜

Sprayer travel speed is influenced by various factors, including sprayer or tractor type, topography, soil tillage, crop growth stage, and operator ability.

Increasing sprayer speed can lead to higher operating pressure to maintain the same application volume. This results in more driftable fines, raising the risk of drift and decreasing application safety.

To optimize performance, adjust the sprayer travel speed to balance operating capacity with application quality and safety.

Droplet Size Plays a Critical Role in Spray Drift

In any spray application, not all droplets behave the same.

Droplets smaller than 150 µm are considered driftable fines—the most likely to move off-target.

Because of their small size, they can:
• Be carried farther by wind
• Evaporate more quickly before reaching the target

The result is reduced efficacy and greater risk of off-target movement.

🎯 That’s why droplet size selection isn’t just a detail. It’s a decision that impacts performance, efficiency, and environmental stewardship.

Understanding Spray Balance: Coverage, Pe*******on & Spray Drift

Every droplet has a job to do. The difference between an average and an excellent application comes down to balancing coverage, canopy pe*******on, and drift control.

Finer droplets boost coverage and might help reach dense canopies, but they’re more prone to drift. Coarser droplets stay on target and reduce drift, yet can struggle to pe*****te deeper into the canopy.

👉The key? Spray tip design.

The Turbo spray tip family from TeeJet Technologies is engineered to outperform—delivering the balance others struggle to achieve.

Twin-pattern designs like Turbo TwinJet® (TTJ60) and Air-Induction Turbo TwinJet® (AITTJ60), along with inclined spray angles like Turbo TeeJet® (TT), create multiple droplet trajectories. The result? Better target engagement from multiple directions and more consistent coverage throughout the canopy.

At the same time, Turbo tips produce a droplet spectrum that maintains momentum—helping droplets stay on target and significantly reducing drift —without sacrificing coverage or pe*******on.

Small changes in spray design. Measurable gains in the field.

With TeeJet Technologies, you can choose the right spray tip that works hard to protect your crop.

Let TeeJet® Technologies Help You Understand Spray Nozzle Nomenclature!

Each spray tip is identified by a part number that provides important details about how it will perform in the field.

Here’s how to read it:

1. Tip Type: Identifies the name of the tip.
2. Brand: Spray Tip Manufacturer
3. Spray Angle: The first two to three numbers typically indicate the spray angle, such as 80° or 110°.
4. Flow Rate: The next two to four numbers show the flow rate in GPM at 40 PSI with water (for example: 015, 02, or 03).
5. VisiFlo® / ISO Code: If the part number includes a “V,” the tip follows the VisiFlo® / ISO color-coding system.
6. Material: The final letter indicates the tip material (P = polymer, K = ceramic, S = stainless steel).

Understanding spray tip nomenclature helps you choose the right tip for the job—improving application accuracy, efficiency, and overall performance.
