"I once worked for a leader at a company in the middle of transition, still finding its footing after a major leadership change. I tried repeatedly to get an engagement survey in place since so much change was happening. This leader, new to the top post, was noncommittal every time. They said they didn’t want to lose the culture. They said they didn’t want to become too corporate. But they could never tell me exactly why the idea of a survey was so off-putting. I would have preferred them to say, “I don’t care what the people think;” it would have been more honest than unhelpful platitudes."
