Last week, Innovative Camp Company's Sterling Leija had the opportunity to participate in the Camp Caucus Safety Briefing in Washington, DC. It was an important gathering of camp leaders, policymakers, and industry partners focused on strengthening safety, preparedness, and child protection efforts across youth-serving organizations.

At Innovative Camp Company, we believe that creating safe, positive experiences for children and families starts with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement. We were encouraged by the meaningful conversations taking place and inspired by the collective dedication to advancing safety throughout the camp community.

We also want to recognize the American Camp Association for its ongoing leadership in supporting camps through education, professional development, research, resources, advocacy, and opportunities for collaboration. Their work continues to help camps across the country provide high-quality, safe experiences for young people. We were proud to be part of this important discussion.

Last week we spent some time at Historic Santa Claus Camp working on a camp signage project.

It’s always fun to walk a camp with fresh eyes and think about the little details that make a big difference for campers, families, and volunteers. Signs may seem simple, but they do a lot of heavy lifting at camp—helping people find their way, reinforcing safety, and making everyone feel more comfortable in a new place.

As we walked around camp talking about where signs should go and what they should say, it got us thinking about all the ways good signage improves the camp experience.

So we pulled together a few tips and tricks for camps that might be updating their signs this season! Sometimes the smallest improvements—like a well-placed sign—can make camp feel easier, safer, and more welcoming for everyone.
