Today, we gathered for a 25th Anniversary Remembrance Stair Climb to honor the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

Local firefighters, police officers, and citizens climbed the equivalent of 110 floors of stairs, a physical reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and service demonstrated 25 years ago.

We are grateful to our community partners, including Valley View Hospital, Glenwood Springs Police Dept , City of Glenwood Springs, Colo. Government and The Meadows Apartments for helping us make this meaningful remembrance possible.

Significant damage prevented by early warning and rapid response

Shortly after 4:00 p.m. while responding to an EMS incident, we were dispatched to the report of a fire alarm at the Adventure Inn in West Glenwood Springs. Firefighters immediately responded.

Upon arrival firefighters found light smoke throughout the structure with visible damage to interior wiring.

Firefighters are currently searching to eliminate possibilities of additional sources of ignition.

Fourteen personnel responded with mutual aid from Colorado River Fire Rescue. Garfield County Emergency Communications Authority Glenwood Springs Police Dept, and Glenwood Springs Electric also responded to this call.

Thirty-five residents are displaced and are being provided with housing.

Cause is under investigation. Electrical source is a strong consideration.

No further information will be provided.

Last week, we trained with firefighters and company officers from Aspen Fire, Roaring Fork Fire Rescue, Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District, Colorado River Fire Rescue, Grand Valley Fire Protection District, as well as partner agencies, who came together for a regional training consortium focused on multi-story and standpipe operations.

Led by retired Denver Fire Department Chief Dave McGrail, the training focused on standpipe systems, fire attack, water supply, hose deployment, and command considerations, building the skills and decision-making needed for some of the fire service’s most challenging environments.

As kids head back to school, slow down, stay alert, and give cyclists plenty of space.

As the new school year starts, our firefighters want to remind you to watch out for children around bus stops and school zones.
Studies show that riding a school bus is one of the safest modes of transportation- the danger lies with hidden blind spots when kids are entering and exiting at various stop locations.
Did you know that even a firetruck is required to yield to the flashing lights on a school bus?
