If you use Microsoft OneNote you'd better pay attention to this!!

• Threat actors are now using OneNote attachments in phishing emails to infect victims with remote access malware. OneNote is included in Microsoft Office 2019 and Microsoft 365 and is automatically installed by default in all Microsoft Office/365 installations. Threat actors are using malspam emails with OneNote attachments pretending to be DHL shipping notifications, invoices, ACH remittance forms, mechanical drawings, and shipping documents. OneNote allows users to insert attachments into a NoteBook that, when double-clicked, will launch the attachment. Threat actors are abusing this feature by attaching malicious VBS attachments that automatically launch the script when double-clicked to download malware from a remote site and install it. Once initial access is gained threat actors further install malware to steal passwords or even cryptocurrency wallets. This shift in tactics is due to Microsoft disabling macros in Office documents as well as 7-Zip and Windows patching bugs for hackers to use ISO images or Zip files.
