In 1952, Adams Telephone Co-Operative was formed by members in Adams County who not only saw the need for rural telephone service but that this service needed to provided over a larger region, rather than small, independent exchanges only. These 13 exchanges (in six counties) are: Augusta, Chambersburg, Coatsburg-Paloma, Golden, Hersman, Fishhook, Lima, Loraine, Mendon, Meyer, Mindale, Ursa, and P
lymouth. As a progressive telecommunications provider, Adams Telephone Co-Operative has continued to invest in rural telecommunications infrastructure, with its most recent investment of $10 million in a fiber-optic facility to serve portions of the Cooperative. Over the years, as communications services and customer needs have changed, Adams has remained committed to ensuring rural areas served by Adams have the services they need in their rural communities. In 1984, Adams Telcom began providing wired cable TV services, and today provides cable in Augusta, Bowen, Camp Point, Clayton, Coatsburg, Fowler, Golden, Lima, Loraine, Marcelline, Mendon, Plymouth, Paloma, and Ursa. Adams NetWorks, Inc., a subsidiary of Adams Telephone Co-Operative, was established in 1994 to provide Internet services to the Cooperative and surrounding areas. Today, Adams NetWorks provides dial-up, high-speed Internet, web hosting, and email services to nine counties in Western Illinois and Northeastern Missouri. To provide broadband, Adams Networks utilizes a variety of methods including DSL over copper, fiber, and wireless technology. Today, Adams NetWorks is able to provide broadband services to: 13 exchanges of Adams Telephone Co-Operative, Quincy, Camp Point, Clayton, Carthage, Lake Shore Hills, Bowen, Barry, Baylis, Fowler, Griggsville, Hull, Kinderhook, Liberty,
Mt. Sterling, Payson, Perry, Pittsfield, Plainville, Timewell, Versailles, Warsaw, Hannibal, MO, Palmyra, MO, and Canton, MO. was formed as a subsidiary of Adams Telephone Co-Operative, to provide long distance services to the Cooperative. When customers not served by Adams Telephone Co-Operative wanted the same quality local service as the Cooperative members, this entity grew to provide CLEC services for businesses and residents in Quincy, Camp Point and Clayton. Sterling, when a major business needed advanced communication services that the ILEC would not provide, Adams TelSystems stepped up to provide this business with the services needed for their national business. In 2007, Adams TelSystems invested in fiber-optic facility for the communities of Camp Point and Clayton. In the past few years, TelSystems has invested in fiber in portions of Quincy, to core developments in the market to support economic development activities. As opportunities develop, Adams has continually re-invested in this market to increase the amount of fiber deployed in Quincy to almost 50 miles supporting many key anchor institutions. has over 18 years experience in providing rural communities with the communication services they want and need, all locally served.
