We're empowering the next generation of women in STEM.

At Tacuna Systems, we know that the future of engineering and technology depends on diverse perspectives and inclusive representation. That’s why we are proud to announce the return of our Women in STEM Empowerment Scholarship for 2026.

This year, we are offering one award to a qualified candidate attending or admitted to a U.S. or Canadian university.

What we’re looking for:
We value curiosity and hands-on experience over just a GPA. Instead of a traditional essay, we’re asking applicants to submit a short video sharing a STEM-related research project or activity that has shaped their academic journey. We want to see the passion behind the science!

Eligibility:
Women pursuing higher education in science or technology at a U.S. or Canadian institution.

Format:
Video submission + application form.

Deadline:
May 15, 2026.

Sometimes, truly unique measurement challenges come our way. Such was the case with a Storm Petrel study led by Robert Mauck at Kenyon College.

His research team needed a field-resilient scale that could operate with minimal human intervention to collect weight data for nesting birds. The goal was to weigh the petrels as they entered and exited their burrows, allowing researchers to calculate the exact mass of food delivered to their chicks.

The Challenge: To collect high-precision data in a subterranean, remote environment.

The Solution: We engineered a robust, field-tolerant Arduino shield for improved noise filtering and measurement stability. This niche PCB work ensured the system stayed low-power and reliable in harsh conditions.

The result was a burrow-lining scale that enabled groundbreaking research in seabird behavior. It will continue to serve as a reliable tool for future studies.
