Running a business is already enough cardio. 😅

Hawthorne & Pine isn’t here to run your business for you. The goal is to help take the annoying, time-consuming, behind-the-scenes stuff off your plate so you can focus on actually running it.

Bookkeeping.
Admin support.
Tax prep.
Financial reporting.

You run the business. We’ll help make it easier. What’s one business task you’d happily hand off? 👇

09/25/2026

You’re not bad at business, friend. You’re just overwhelmed.

Somehow you’re supposed to be the CEO, bookkeeper, scheduler, email responder, file organizer, tax preparer, AND the person who remembers where you saved that one document six months ago. 🙃

You don’t have to juggle it all alone. If the behind-the-scenes stuff is eating up your time (and your sanity), send it my way. I’ll take care of the annoying things so you can get back to doing the work you actually love.

If you’re juggling all the things right now, drop a đŸ™‹â€â™€ïž in the comments!
And tell me: what’s the ONE task you’d love to hand off? 👇

09/17/2026

Sometimes you just look at a person and wonder, “How did they get here?” or “Why did they do that?”

Well
there’s a why behind Hawthorne & Pine, and it had YOU in mind.

Small business owners, this one’s for you. The business is yours, but you don’t have to handle every annoying task yourself.

If it’s annoying, send it my way. 😉

there’s probably a whole list of annoying business tasks we forgot. 👀

The “Good Ol’ Days” were never really good.

Whoah. Another strong statement right out of the gate. I’ll explain and the answer will be (hopefully) surprising.

I’m continuing my campaign of not doing sales pitches. They still make me want to hurl, and I’m still ok with that. If you need some admin help, email me.

To the statement at hand!

Younger generations seem like they’re always getting dumped on. Millennials (represent!) are a bunch of diamond trade & homeowning market killing nihilists, Gen Z is bemoaned as being soft and entitled, and Gen Alpha is criticized for their brain rot content and short attention spans. All three also seem to be reason consumerism is at an all-time high.

Kids these days.

Except not really. Though true, consumerism is at an all time high thanks to the internet allowing for easily accessible shopping platforms through targeted ads, Temu, and the TikTok shop, I’d argue they are not the cause of consumerism, rather a magnifying glass for something humans have always been doing: buying stuff that’s kind of dumb.

Case in point, the antimony cup.

A few things to preface: Antimony is a metalloid that has a heavy metal toxicity similar to arsenic. Antimony has also been used as far back as 3000BCE as an expectorant (ie it makes you vom).

Antimony was so popular in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries it had its own accessories.

Temu could never!
..But if it did, would probably look like this:

đŸ§Ș Tired of the hassle of measuring toxins for your w**e, water, or ale? Not anymore! The antimony cup does the work for you! It’s made out of (surprise!) antimony! Simply pour your beverage into the small silver cup (pictured) and let it do the work for you!
đŸ€ą Ingest your now heavy metal-infused beverage and before long you’ll be puking your brains out! (Good thing it comes with a bowl to blow chunks into!)
đŸ· The antimony cup is also great for efficiency! If you don't finish your drink fast enough, your stomach won’t be the only thing that gets purged--your life might as well!
💀 Talk about having a killer time!
📩 The antimony cup’s all in one design includes a nesting bowl for super convenient travel & storage!
đŸ„Œ Get yours before medical science realizes this is actually a bad idea!
--
All I can say is I’m glad the TikTok shop wasn’t around in the 1700s and I’m glad antimony cups aren’t around now.

Thanks to the Victoria and Albert Museum for the photos. I’ll have to book some tickets to see these in person (I won’t drink out of them, I promise).

PIRATES USED GUNPOWDER FOR THEIR TATTOOS.

That’s a lot first thing on a Wednesday, let me explain.

I’m a small business owner and I guess that means I need to post somewhat regularly because metrics? Or something. Whatever.

Thing is, the thought of trying to make sales-pitch posts that don’t sound like sales pitches makes me want to hurl. So, if you need some support for your business with things like taxes, bookkeeping, or payroll, cool—shoot me an email.

But if I need to post regularly then I’m doing it my own way (that means it’s gonna be all over the place and not really related to the thing you’d think should be here).

So, let me tell you about pirates using gunpowder for their tattooing so you can dazzle and entertain at your next watercooler encounter. Tattooing and body modification has been going on since the Stone Age (10,000 BCE-2,000 BCE) across cultures for varying reasons (religion, ritual, rites of passage, achievements, etc).

All have fun niches and nuances but the ECU Department of History is my alma mater, so I’m naturally fixating on Age of Sail (mid-1500s-mid-1800s. Think Pirates of the Caribbean) pirates & their tattooing practices.

As it turns out, while at sea it was a necessity to have sewing supplies on board for patching clothes, sails and the like. Sailors/pirates/privateers/sea-faring individuals would repurpose their supplies to prick the design and rub gunpowder or soot into the wound to permanently mark the skin.

That’s all I have. Pretty cool. Pretty metal. And despite also being an East Carolina University, I’ve never been more grateful to my tattoo artist for not using gunpower when I book my appointments. Tattoo tax included below.
