As we approach the upcoming school year, many parents are in a frenzied state right now as they prepare. Paper, folders, crayons, but wait. Did the teacher say my child needs to be potty trained when they start??
With so much on your plate already, you don't have time to think about potty training, too!
Talk with your child's teacher before they begin and discuss some options and ideas that can be implemented at school to aid in their training.

With school starting up soon, it's natural to have a little apprehension about it if your child isn't fully potty trained or if you've only just started! That's where I come in to play.
If your child is starting school but they have to be fully potty trained beforehand, have a plan and get started! I create custom plans specifically for situations like this! Reach out today for more information.
Once you have your plan of action, discuss it with your child's teachers so everyone can be on the same page and you can each know what the procedure will look like (*bonus if your child attends, too so they can be in the loop!)
After training is established at school and you have got your plan in place, follow-up every week or two with the school to check in on your child's progress. You can really boost their self-confidence with a trip for ice cream after school if you hear they've done particularly well that day/week!

Many parents aren't aware of the specifics of a daycare's potty training policy, or don't think to ask. However, they're often much more flexible than you think, you just have to take the time to discuss it!
When you plan to begin potty training (or if you already have), call and schedule a conference with your child's teacher(s) to create a game plan on potty training while they are at school. For an added bonus, bring your little one along to make them feel included and familiarize them with the process, too! Here are some things you may want to discuss.
❓ Ask them their policy on potty training and see what they are and aren't flexible with. Maybe they state "Pull-Ups until fully potty trained" but will allow underwear on in addition to the Pull-Up.
☝️ Bring a list of some general potty training tactics, ideas, and methods you use at home to suggest/discuss. Include things like rewards, special potty toys, or level of privacy your child is comfortable with.
🚽 Expose your child to the bathroom and explain the process with them, too. Make sure they're comfortable asking the teacher to go and have them find some fun things they like about the bathroom to make them more relaxed.

When your little one is in daycare, it's easy to compare your child's milestones to those of every other child. But you can't measure one child's progress from another!

I know it's easier said than done, but just like potty training, practice makes perfect!
Next time your child has an accident, try these steps!
1️⃣ STAY CALM & DON'T REACT!
"Carly, I can see you've p*ed in your pants. You had an accident."
2️⃣ LEARN & ACCEPT!
"Our p*e only goes in the potty. It doesn't belong in our pants."
3️⃣ ENCOURAGE & MOVE ON!
"It's time to go clean you up now. I'm sure next time you need to go you can try harder to remember to sit on the potty."

Say it with me: Parents 👏 Are 👏 Not 👏 Perfect 👏 People!👏
That's right! All the gentle parenting in the world can not make you a perfect human. We will make mistakes and snap sometimes, and your child will not love you less because of it!
I know how frustrating accidents can be, for multiple reasons, but instead of breaking and giving your child that desired attention, focus your energy elsewhere and let it go. (easier said than done, right??)
