Water (H0H) is the one ESSENTIAL chemical compound needed for life. It is also the most likely source of illness and death (other than homicide, accidents. or su***de).

Everyone is aware of the effects of natural catastrophic events such as storms that result in flooding and destruction. Any drinking water is under a “boil” order before ingesting.

But is everyone aware of the potential dangers in apparently clean drinking waters, swimming pools, and hot tubs (there is even a disease known as “HOT TUB FOLLICULITIS” caused by Pseudomonas bacteria). Clean looking ponds, lakes and rivers are receptacles for wastes from the bodies of fish, waterfowl, and domestic and wild animals that inhabit the shorelines, whose wastes are washed into the water. States have laws that limit the amounts of bacteria allowed for beach waters used for swimming or other contact.

Municipally chlorinated drinking water should be relatively safe if it is monitored properly, but in many countries that is not done. Many people think that installing a filter on their faucet will eliminate bacteria, but if filters are not changed regularly, they will accumulate organic debris and bacteria will grow there in profusion so that the water is worse than without a filter.

Some people feel safe by buying bottled water, or taking their own containers to be filled at the grocery. Let me assure you (Dr. Roth taught microbiology to pre-med and nursing students for 40 years) that bacteria are common in these waters. The laws commonly mention one or two prohibited bacterial species, but do not speak to other types that may be present. (In one notable laboratory experiment, students purchased bottled water and tested it for bacteria. To the chagrin of some who came from homes who drank only the most expensive brand, their brand contained the most bacteria (far more than the generic brands).

For persons who live in a non-urban area with their own well and septic system, it is wise to have their water tested regularly or to test it themselves with a reliable method. Sending samples to certified laboratories is expensive, and negative things can happen between sample collection and the time that it is actually tested.
Dr. Roth invented the R-CARD™ ECC to provide an easy-to-use, very inexpensive way to test your water. This test has been carried and used throughout the world with uniformly very excellent reviews.
