As we close in on the beginning of a New Year, if you're out enjoying some libations, please, use uber/lyft/designated drivers.

Ask yourself, is it worth potential criminals charges (DUI, Homicide by vehclicle, homicide by vehicle while DUI) and countless other potential violations or the potential knowledge that you could have easily avoided them.

If the potential personal consequences don't stop you, think about the innocent family members, either your own or someone else's, that will be effected by your choices.

With this in mind, some quick tips:
Stay home if possible, or at least until roads have been plowed and treated. Its safer for you and the highway workers.

Make sure you have fuel, snacks, water and a blanket or two in your vehicle. If you've ever been stuck in a winter traffic jam, you'll be happy you're prepared.

Flashlight that is charged and/or has fresh batteries.

​Slow down: It takes much longer to stop on snow and ice.

​Increase following distance: Give yourself an 8–10 second buffer.

​Stay alert: Keep your gas tank at least half full.
