Happy Labor Day from MAFF Local 1137!

Today we recognize the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice of working men and women throughout our community.
For the Grand Blanc Township Part Time Firefighters of MAFF Local 1137, serving our community isn’t just a job. It’s a commitment. While many are enjoying a long weekend with family and friends, our firefighters continue to stand ready to answer the call whenever our neighbors need us.
We’re proud to be part of Grand Blanc Township, a community that continues to grow, improve, and invest in the people who make it such a great place to live. We’re especially grateful for the Grand Blanc Township Board for recognizing the importance of public safety and supporting the men and women who serve this community.
Strong communities don’t happen by accident. They’re built by people willing to work hard, serve others, and invest in the future. Grand Blanc Township continues to show what that looks like.
From our families to yours, Happy Labor Day! 🇺🇸

We've had comments asking about relief from this heat. The good news is as we roll into the weekend, our heat dome starts to fall apart just a bit, and a return to around average July temperatures resumes, but as the heat dome resolves itself, the chances for storms return as well.

Heat index values remain in the 100s for many through Thursday, then taper off into the 90s and high 80s for the holiday. Our heat-related alerts issued by the local NWS offices do expire Thursday night, but we may see some pop-up again for Friday, highly dependent on how incoming storms affect the region. Truthfully, Friday-Sunday will be the days that'll vary in temperature by location due to passing showers and storms.

We will have more on the storm threat for your holiday weekend later on. Follow along here at Michigan Storm Chasers for all your weather forecasts year-round. Post as of 8 am EDT 6/30/26. Data shown is centralized out of Lansing, and varies by location.

Grand Blanc Township Fire Department is proud to recognize Firefighter Alex Newton for his actions as a good Samaritan while off duty.
Early this morning, FF Newton came upon a serious collision on North Lapeer Road near Oakwood Road in Oxford Township, where a vehicle had struck a semi-truck at high speed and the driver was trapped inside with critical injuries. Without hesitation, FF Newton stopped, assessed the scene, and rendered aid to the trapped motorist alongside Oakland County Sheriff's deputies and Oxford Township firefighters until the driver could be extricated and transported to the hospital.
There is no shift schedule for the instinct to help. FF Newton's willingness to act, without his crew, his apparatus, or any obligation other than the one he carries with him every day, reflects the character and professionalism that define the men and women of the GBTFD.

Well done, Alex. We are proud to have you representing this department both on and off duty.
