What if the behavior makes sense to the brain experiencing it?

Dementia can change much more than memory. Changes in different areas of the brain can affect judgment, language, balance, spatial awareness, vision, sleep, appetite, emotional regulation, and the ability to understand what is happening around us. What looks like stubbornness, poor judgment, resistance, or “difficult behavior” may actually be the brain trying to navigate a world it is processing differently.

When we understand what the brain is doing, we can change what we are doing. Instead of correcting, we can connect. Instead of arguing, we can reassure. Instead of asking, “Why are they doing this?” we can begin asking, “What is their brain trying to tell me?”

That shift matters. Understanding the brain does not remove the challenges of dementia, but it can help us respond with greater patience, creativity, dignity, and compassion.

🐾❤️ A Little Sunday Love! ❤️🐾

We’re bringing some smiles to your Sunday with a sweet moment from a recent visit to the AEHC office! 🥰

Our individual had the BEST time visiting Hank, our “office dog,” and it was easy to see just how much she adores him and vice versa! 🐶💕 The excitement, the smiles, and all the love she gave Hank made this visit extra special.

We love seeing the joy these little moments bring to the individuals we support. Sometimes, all it takes is a little time with a furry friend to make an ordinary day feel pretty special! 🐾✨
