Why Do I Need to Know My Salt Levels?

If levels are too low, it may reduce the production of chlorine.
If levels are too high, it might cause corrosion in pool equipment.

Recommended Levels
Salt levels should be between 2700-3400 ppm. If they fall out of those ranges, follow the guidelines for your pools size and current salt level to get it back in balance.

How Does a Saltwater Pool Work?

A salt pool sanitizes the water with chlorine just like other pools. The difference between them is in how the chlorine is added to the pool. Salt chlorine generators convert sodium chloride (NaCl), also known as table salt, into chlorine. These salt generators, also called salt cells, work by electrolysis.

PH Level
Water PH ranges from 1 to 14. Lower numbers are more acidic, and higher numbers are more alkaline. Proper pool PH is right in the middle — pool pros recommend that PH be between 7.2 and 7.6 for optimum performance and cleanest water. When water is too alkaline, it reduces the effectiveness of the chlorine and can cause rashes, cloudy water, and scaling on pool equipment. Too low PH can cause skin irritation, irritated eyes, and pool equipment corrosion.
