The sewer pipe under most properties in this country is between 30 and 100 years old.

You can't tell what shape a line is in by looking at the surface. Cracks, root intrusion, offset joints, low spots holding water, all of it stays hidden until something backs up. The only way to actually see it is to run a camera through the line.

That is what CCTV mainline inspection is for. For inspectors, realtors, and GCs, a recorded camera run turns "the line is probably fine" into a documented condition you can stand behind.

Everyone thought they knew where the line was.

The paint marks were down.
The plan looked fine.
The crew had what they needed to get the project started.

Then the question came up:

“What about the sewer lateral line that isn’t marked?”

That’s usually where the problems begin.

Not because anyone skipped a step.

But because some underground lines are private, undocumented, old, abandoned, or just not where people expect them to be.

Sewer laterals. Irrigation. Storm drains. Old services. The stuff that does not always show up cleanly on a set of drawings.

That is the gap Sightline helps close.

Before the project starts, we locate, inspect, and document what’s underground so there is less guessing when it matters most.

811 is the right first step.

It just may not be the last one.

811 is the right place to start before digging.

But in Colorado, 811 does not mark every underground line on a property.

Private utilities and property-specific lines may need to be located or inspected separately.

That can include irrigation, septic-related lines, sewer laterals, buried tanks, or private service lines.

Before work starts, make sure you know what was marked, what wasn’t, and what still needs to be verified.

The problem is not always the utility everyone knows about.

It is often the one nobody checked for.

In Colorado, 811 is the right first step before digging. But private underground lines may need to be located separately.

That can include irrigation lines, septic-related lines, private service lines, sewer laterals, electric to detached buildings, or other property-specific utilities.

Before work starts, the goal is simple:

Know what was marked.
Know what was not.
Verify what still needs to be found.

That extra step can help crews avoid confusion, delays, and expensive surprises.

Before crews get onsite, Sightline helps document what’s already underground.

✅ Utility locates.
✅ Existing conditions.
✅ Sewer inspections.
✅ Service connections.
✅ Access points.
✅ Underground conflicts.

The goal is simple: give crews better information before work begins.

You probably don’t think about irrigation lines until one gets hit.

Then the job gets real annoying, real fast.

Repairs. Delays. Confusion over who’s responsible for fixing it.

In Western Colorado, irrigation systems are easy to overlook because records are often non-existent, outdated, or buried in someone’s memory.

Depending on the size of the line and the access available, Sightline can help locate and inspect irrigation systems so crews have better information before work starts.

The line everyone forgets about can still slow the whole job down.

A sewer inspection should give you answers without added sales pressure.

Not every sewer issue needs to turn into a repair conversation right away. Sometimes, the first step is simply getting a clear look at what is happening underground.

Sightline provides third-party sewer inspections, locating, and documentation so everyone involved can understand what was found before making the next decision.

Clear footage.
Clear documentation.
No guesswork.
No repair sales pitch attached.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

A lot of sewer laterals are not documented, not located, or not located properly.

That’s where problems start.

Over the last 12 months, Sightline has located and inspected 11,000+ sewer laterals with only one at-fault line strike.

Approximately 90% of these laterals were crossed as part of boring or underground excavation projects. The other 10% gave our clients the confidence to proceed without the worry of unexpected line strikes or unknown utilities.

That does not happen by accident.

It takes inspection footage, locating, depth verification, documentation, and field data crews can actually use before work starts.

The goal is simple:

Find it.
Document it.
Help crews avoid it.

Paperwork in construction gets ignored. Everyone knows it.

But hand someone a phone with the same information on an app and suddenly your crew is actually using it.

Caleb Putnam of Sightline Solutions and Mike Seriani of MARK Construction broke down how field-friendly documentation changes the way crews operate. From daily safety talks to existing conditions before a job even starts, one guy can run the whole weekly safety meeting off his phone. Sign-ins, forms, all of it.

The difference is not the information. It is how accessible it is.

Less bad handwriting. Less wasted time. More of the work actually getting done right.

If your crew is avoiding the paperwork, the problem might not be the crew.
