One of the greatest blessings this trade has given me isn’t just the opportunity to build things… it’s the opportunity to invest in people.
Over the years I’ve had the privilege of training a lot of people in this trade. Some went on to make careers out of it. Others simply wanted to learn a skill they could carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Today, I’m blessed to work alongside people at different stages of that journey.
One is my 11 year old son. He’s been helping me since he was around seven years old. Every year I watch him become more capable and more confident. There is just something special about teaching your own son a trade, watching him learn, and seeing the pride he takes in doing things right.
Another is Cam Whiteford 18. He’s chasing a rodeo career in saddle bronc riding and steer wrestling. One thing I really respect about Cam is that he shows up every morning ready to learn. He isn’t afraid to ask questions, put in the work, or improve. To me, that’s the recipe for success. Talent matters, but a humble attitude, consistency, and a willingness to keep learning will take a person a long way.
Then there’s Aaron Stanfill, or “Skinny Aaron” as many people know him. Aaron and I have worked together since 2007. Over the years he helped build Contact Welding by running my shop, and I honestly couldn’t ask for a better teammate. Having him back for round two is a blessing, and I’m excited for what lies ahead.
As Contact Welding Services gets back to serving the Western Slope, my hope is that we’re known for more than quality welds. I hope we’re known for doing honest work, treating people right, and passing this trade on to the next generation.
