One of the most expensive phrases in a dealership detail department is:

“That’s how we’ve always done it.”

Last week I watched a process that was costing a dealership money every single vehicle.

Nobody was doing anything wrong.

Nobody was lazy.

Nobody was cutting corners.

The process itself was the problem.

An extra chemical step.

A product being overapplied.

A task being repeated that added no value to the customer.

When you multiply a few dollars per vehicle by hundreds or thousands of vehicles per year, small inefficiencies become big expenses.

The funny thing is most detail departments don’t have a product problem.

They have a process problem.

Before changing chemicals, buying new equipment, or hiring more people, look at the workflow.

Sometimes the biggest improvements come from doing less, not more. Picture for attention. Not from dealership in question.

It’s amazing what happens when competitors start getting nervous.

For more than a year, one competitor did everything they could to keep me out of the Denver market.

Now the stories start.

We’re told we’re not local enough. We’re told people should be loyal. We’re told all kinds of things that simply don’t match reality.

The truth is much simpler.

Customers don’t buy from us because of rumors. They buy from us because we solve problems.

Yes, industry experience matters. Training matters. Education matters. Making sure SDS sheets are available and secondary containers are properly labeled matters. Service matters.

But in today’s market, there’s another reality: value matters.

We buy better. We stock deeper. We support our customers better. And when dealerships and detailers compare options side by side, those differences become hard to ignore.

The irony is that while some competitors focused on keeping us out, we focused on strengthening relationships with customers, manufacturers, and industry professionals.

Those relationships are paying dividends.

At the end of the day, the market decides.

Not rumors.
Not loyalty demands.
Not fear.

Just value, service, and results.

We’ll keep showing up every day and earning business the old-fashioned way.
