For Shanee, a perfect day meant spending time with the people who have stood by her side throughout her journey.

Through Emmanuel Hospice’s patient wish program, Shay was able to enjoy a special day centered around friendship, fun and some of her favorite things — including seeing her friend Marley perform downtown, sharing lunch with her close-knit group of friends, and ending the day with a private screening of the sequel to her all-time favorite movie, The Devil Wears Prada at Celebration Cinema North.

When Shay and her entourage arrived at the theater, they were surprised to learn a private screening was reserved for them, complete with popcorn, drinks and other concessions to their hearts’ content. It was the perfect end to a relaxing day with loved ones.

We’re so grateful to Celebration Cinema and the staff at Celebration North for helping make this memorable experience possible, and to Bloom Credit Union, sponsor of Emmanuel Hospice’s patient wish program, for supporting meaningful moments like these for the patients and families we serve.

But Patient Access Specialist for Emmanuel Hospice, Elizabeth, wants families to know that "a call to learn more doesn’t equate to a commitment, and you can always change your mind." Another wish fulfilled, and this one had been close to Judy's heart for a long time. 🦁

Judy is 82, a former nurse of 30 years, a world traveler, a maker of beloved pies, and a devoted mom and grandma. Years ago, she and her husband, Donald, tried to see The Lion King together in Ontario but couldn't get seats. The wish stayed with her.

When she mentioned it to her Emmanuel Hospice social worker after seeing an ad for the show, her care team made it happen.

She took her seat at DeVos Performance Hall, with her son Kent and his wife Colleen at her side.

A night at the theatre is one thing. A night like this is a reminder that joy, wonder, and new memories are possible at every stage of life.

Judy, you deserve every moment of it.
