Instead of pulling away, she chose reassurance and steady presence. Over time, that simple act opened the door for the patient to share the fears he had been carrying.

In taking the time to listen and meet this patient where they were, Kristin helped them feel heard and supported.

When one of Jeanne Schuppe’s patients had been seriously injured in a motorcycle accident, Jeanne went above and beyond by stepping in to offer support for their partner, helping them navigate paperwork and stay grounded until family could arrive.

Oftentimes, nursing goes beyond clinical care. This story serves as a reminder that some of the most meaningful care nurses provide occurs in moments of uncertainty, when patients and their families need someone steady by their side.
