Not every difficult reaction to a high-stress job is burnout.

Sometimes it’s stress.
Sometimes it’s compassion fatigue.
Sometimes it’s PTSD.
And sometimes, the deepest wound is moral injury.

These experiences can overlap, but they are not the same—and understanding the difference matters. 🧠

You cannot effectively address what you do not recognize.

For those working in high-stress professions, the goal isn’t to become unaffected by the work. 💪

The goal is to recognize when the work is beginning to affect you—and respond before temporary strain becomes something deeper.

🚨 Stress: The demands are high.
🔥 Burnout: The demands have become unsustainable.
💔 Compassion fatigue: The emotional cost of caring is catching up.
⚠️ PTSD: Your mind and body are still responding to danger that has passed.
🧭 Moral injury: Something has violated your deeply held values, beliefs, or sense of what is right.

And here’s the truth: self-care alone cannot fix unhealthy working conditions.

Support, recovery, connection, healthy leadership, and organizational change all matter. 🤝

You carry a great deal in the work you do.

You shouldn’t have to carry it alone. ❤️

Save this carousel for later—and share it with someone working in a profession where the pressure never seems to let up.

✨ What happens when the systems supporting children and families stop working in silos and start working together?

That’s the conversation I’ll be exploring at the Attachment & Trauma Network’s 2nd Annual Virtual Building Resilient Communities for Children Conference!

I’m honored to present:

🧭 Breaking Down Silos: Using the Collaboration Compass to Build Stronger Systems for Youth and Families

Children and families don’t experience crises in organizational silos.

They experience one crisis.
One family.
One story.

Yet the professionals supporting them often navigate disconnected systems, competing priorities, and communication barriers.

So how do we change that?

The Collaboration Compass helps us think differently about how we build stronger systems through:

🧭 Shared Purpose
🤝 Stronger Relationships
💬 Better Communication
➡️ Coordinated Action

Because resilient children need resilient communities.

And resilient communities are built when we stop working around each other and start working with each other.

I’m excited to share that I’ll be presenting at the Attachment & Trauma Network’s 2nd Annual Virtual Building Resilient Communities for Children Conference on September 17–18, 2026! 💙

My presentation is:

🧭 Breaking Down Silos: Using the Collaboration Compass to Build Stronger Systems for Youth and Families

Here’s the question I’ll be exploring:

What happens when the systems supporting children and families stop working in silos—and start working together?

Children and families don’t experience crises in organizational silos.

They experience one crisis. One family. One story.

But the professionals supporting them often find themselves navigating disconnected systems, competing priorities, communication barriers, and different approaches to solving the same problem.

The Collaboration Compass offers a framework for moving from disconnected efforts toward:

🧭 Shared Purpose
🤝 Stronger Relationships
💬 Better Communication
➡️ Coordinated Action

Because resilient children need resilient families.

Resilient families need resilient communities.

And resilient communities are built when we stop working around each other and start working with each other.

I’m honored to be part of this conference alongside so many professionals and advocates committed to building stronger communities for children and families.

Moral injury is one of the most misunderstood wounds in first responder culture—and one of the most common. It isn’t about fear, weakness, or burnout. It’s about what happens when the job forces you into situations that conflict with your values, your identity, or your sense of right and wrong.

You can walk away from a scene physically fine and still feel like something in you took a hit.

Most responders don’t talk about it because there’s shame, anger, or the belief that “everyone else seems to handle this.”
They’re not.
They’re just silent.

This carousel breaks down what moral injury is, what it isn’t, how it shows up, and what actually helps healing—not the clichés, not the platitudes, and not the “part of the job” dismissal.

If you recognize yourself in any of this, you’re not alone.
You’re not broken.
You’re human.
And there’s a way forward.

Let’s start naming what’s been costing us the most.

This Police Week, we honor those who gave everything in service to others. Their sacrifice reminds us why wellness matters—not just for surviving, but for truly living the calling they died protecting.

Wellness Reflection:
Honor their legacy by checking in on your mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Taking care of yourself honors the badge and those we’ve lost.
