Attention Livestock owners! There are some simple things that can really help reduce problems between your livestock and predators. I know for the most part we all do our best to maintain our respective stock but I would just like to make a few helpful suggestions that are cheap and effective... Well in comparison to dealing with lost or injured livestock.
1. Take the time to make sure your fence lines are in good working condition and whenever possible make needed repairs quickly.
2. If you have a paddock or barn where you put your animals up at night keep a radio on talk radio at night loud enough to easily hear from outside. It is super easy to set a radio up on an auto timer to come on an hour before sunset and go off an hour after sunrise.
3. Utilize game cameras in an effort to monitor predator movement on and around your livestock area. Predators often frequent a given pasture or paddock before they actually make a livestock kill. Cameras are very affordable and with today's technology it is very affordable to get multiple cameras with remote live feed capabilities.

In livestock we have all sorts of simple, readily available options for treating for parasites. Fleas, Ticks and Eurasian Louse are not to be taken lightly when it comes to big game and people alike. "Hair Loss Syndrome" in black-tailed deer has become an evident problem in Oregon and Washington deer populations. It is a problem on the verge of an epidemic and can often weaken deer to the point that they are susceptible to a plethora of secondary problems generally equating to death. On the human side of such parasites we have lymes disease which is a complete topic of its own. There are proven solutions to this problem that have been used across the mid-western states and along the northeast zones of our country but unfortunately has yet to pick up here in Oregon.
