There is always more to do.
More work to finish. More plans to make. More responsibility to carry.
I know what it is to carry a lot, and sometimes the pace of it all can quietly convince us that everything depends on us.
But rest is not falling behind.
Rest is where we remember who is really leading the work.
When we slow down and make space for God, our hearts realign. We remember that we don’t have to understand every next step or have every answer before moving forward.
In work, at home, in seasons of building something new, or while walking through change, we can trust the One who sees the whole path.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding…” — Proverbs 3:5 (NIV)
This week, may we make a little room to breathe, to listen, and to let God lead.

Harvest days. 🍇
A few weeks ago, we harvested our Lamanto and Blanc du Bois here at Inner Banks Farm & Vineyard.
There’s something pretty special about finally standing among vines you’ve tended, clipping the fruit you’ve watched grow all season, and filling buckets one cluster at a time.
But looking back at these pictures, I think my favorite part of harvest wasn’t really the grapes.
It was the people and the laughter between the rows even though it was 96 degrees at 8 am.

A vineyard is built vine by vine, season by season, and very rarely alone.

We made breakfast and for one beautiful day, we stopped long enough to enjoy the harvest. 🍇

Rest is not giving up.

It is trusting enough to pause before moving.

Morning arrives slowly on the farm. The sky begins to brighten, the pasture wakes, and another day quietly unfolds.

There is wisdom in approaching the day the same way, listening, waiting, and resisting the urge to act before clarity comes.

“In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice;
in the morning I lay my requests before you
and wait expectantly.”
— Psalm 5:3

We do not always need to move slower.

We need to move with clarity.

Listen.
Wait.
Then take the next faithful step.

Words from the Cottage 🤍
We’re so grateful for our guests like Rebecca, who stayed in our Blanc du Bois Cottage and left such kind words behind.
Creating a place that feels peaceful, beautiful, and genuinely welcoming is exactly why we opened our cottages. Whether you enjoy coffee on the porch, wander beside the vineyard, visit the sheep, or simply slow down for a while, we hope your stay feels like a true pause from the everyday.
Come find your own little rhythm of rest at Inner Banks Farm & Vineyard, just 20 minutes from New Bern and Oriental.

Some nights on the farm invite you to do nothing more than sit beside the fire and look toward the sky.

No rushing.
No fixing.
No need to fill the silence.

Stillness is not inactivity.

It is the sacred pause between what has happened and what comes next. It gives us space to release our need for immediate answers and trust that not everything must be resolved tonight.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Psalm 46:10

Sometimes we do not need another perspective.

We simply need enough quiet to recognize the one that matters most.

There is something about the quiet of the farm at night that teaches us to listen.

The frogs calling from the pond.
The crackle of the fire.
The sounds that only seem to appear after the day becomes still.

Listening is a discipline.

It means pausing before drawing conclusions, quieting our assumptions, and making room to understand.

Our first responsibility is not always to solve.
Sometimes, it is simply to listen.

“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak…”
— James 1:19

Perhaps clarity begins when we become still enough to hear.

Words from the Cottage: Short and sweet notes like this make our day.
“Your homes are beautiful… we will definitely be coming back.”
We are so grateful for every guest who chooses to stay with us, slow down for a little while, and enjoy the quiet of the farm.

The cottages are ready, the porch chairs are waiting, and we would love to welcome you for a peaceful stay.

A little slower here. 🐑🍇

The vineyard is quiet, the sheep are waiting, and the morning begins with a feed bucket in hand.

Farm life is not always slow, but it has a way of reminding us to pause, to notice the view, enjoy the simple routines, and be present for the moments that might otherwise pass us by.

Reminder for the day: enjoy the simple pleasures
