They believed before we booked a single band. 💜
Last year the Historic Colfax Downtown Association went after a national grant that a town of 2,200 people had no business competing for. We made it to the top 50 finalists. We didn't win.
Most towns would've stopped there. We didn't.
We started with $500 in our Colfax Concert Fund, a whole lot of stubborn belief, and a promise to our community — and we did the concert series anyway. We didn't even have a name for it yet. "Live in Colfax" came later, once we knew this was something worth naming and building on.
That's when US Bank, Pioneer Community Energy, Smarter Broadband, Placer County, Hills Flat Lumber, NCM Lending, Arts Council of Placer County, and the City of Colfax stepped up with real dollars. Not in-kind support, not a favor — actual cash, put on the table before we had a single band booked, before there was any proof this would work.
Now we're three concerts into our very first season of Live in Colfax. Hundreds of people have discovered our historic downtown who never knew it existed. Local businesses have seen customers they'd never seen before. A town that people once said couldn't compete has become a place people drive from Sacramento to Truckee to visit on a Saturday night.
None of it happens without the sponsors who funded this before it was proven — and none of it happens without our community partners either, who've given their time, their spaces, and their support every step of the way.
But this post is for the ones who wrote the checks. Thank you to our founding sponsors — you didn't just fund a concert series. You helped a small town decide who it wanted to be.
And speaking of tonight — see you at Art Park! Connor Hanley of Malarkey opens at 5:30PM, and Matt Rainey & the Dippin' Sauce take the stage at 7:15PM. Doors open at 5. Free, all ages, and one of the best lineups of the summer.
The beer will be cold and ready!
