One thing that stood out from Day on the Marsh:

People are looking for practical solutions.

Whether it’s invasive species management, difficult-to-access terrain, habitat improvement, or simply getting work done more efficiently, the conversation wasn’t really about drones.

It was about solving problems.

The technology is just a tool.

The goal is helping landowners and managers achieve their objectives while protecting and improving the resources they care about.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by booth at Day on the Marsh this weekend.

It was great meeting duck club owners, land managers, conservation professionals, and others who are passionate about the future of the Suisun Marsh.

We had some great conversations about invasive species management, habitat improvement, vegetation control, and how drone technology can become another tool to help meet management goals.

Events like this are a great reminder that successful land stewardship comes from people sharing ideas, experiences, and solutions.

Thank you to California Waterfowl, the event organizers, volunteers, vendors, and everyone who helped make the day a success.

If we didn’t get a chance to connect, or if you have questions about drone applications for wetlands, duck clubs, agriculture, or land management, feel free to reach out.

Out at Day on the Marsh today talking with duck club owners, land managers, and conservation professionals about vegetation management and drone technology.

One of the things I enjoy most about events like this is hearing firsthand about the challenges people are facing in the field from invasive species management to difficult-to-access treatment areas.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution, but it’s exciting to see growing interest in how new tools and technologies can help support habitat management and conservation efforts.

If you’re attending today, stop by and say hello!

🚜✈️🙏

Thoughts and prayers for the pilot involved.

Moments like this are a reminder of the risks agricultural aviators take every day to help produce our food and support our farming communities. Whether it’s seeding rice, applying crop protection products, or working in challenging conditions, these pilots operate in an environment where skill, experience, and focus matter every second.

Agricultural aviation is one of the most demanding jobs in agriculture. Long hours, low-altitude flying, changing weather, obstacles, and tight operating windows are all part of the profession.

Today is a good reminder to keep this pilot, their family, and the entire agricultural aviation community in our thoughts.

Wishing for a full and speedy recovery.

The challenge with invasive species isn’t finding them.

It’s staying ahead of them.

By the time Phragmites, Lepidium, or Russian thistle become obvious, they’ve often already gained ground and started impacting habitat quality, access, and management goals.

Successful vegetation management isn’t about reacting.

It’s about timing.

The earlier you identify the problem, the more options you have available to address it.

Five years ago, if you told most people we’d be using drones to manage weeds in marshes, spray steep hillsides, treat rice fields, seed cover crops, and support conservation projects…

They probably wouldn’t have believed you.

Now it’s becoming just another day at work.

Agriculture is changing fast, and it’s exciting to be part of it.

What’s one thing you think ag drones will be doing routinely five years from now that sounds crazy today?

The goal isn’t to fly drones.

The goal is to solve problems.

Whether it’s invasive species in a marsh, difficult terrain, a rice field, a vineyard, or a ranch road that’s impossible to access with conventional equipment. The technology is simply another tool to get the job done.

Every project is different.

Every property has its own challenges.

That’s what makes this work interesting.

One of the most common questions I get is:

“Can a drone spray this?”

The answer usually isn’t yes or no.

It depends on:
• Terrain
• Wind
• Obstacles
• Access
• Product requirements
• Flight planning
• Safety considerations

The drone is only part of the equation.

The real work happens before the motors ever start.

Every successful application starts with evaluating the site and building a plan.

Not all weeds create the same problems.

In the Suisun Marsh, invasive species like Phragmites, Lepidium, and Russian thistle can reduce habitat quality, limit access, and outcompete desirable vegetation if left unmanaged.

The challenge isn’t just controlling them, it’s reaching them.

Many infestations occur in areas where access is limited, terrain is difficult, or traditional equipment isn’t practical.

That’s where drone application can become another tool in the toolbox.

Looking forward to talking marsh management, invasive species control, and drone technology at Day on the Marsh next weekend.
