The Pentagon Faces Cuts; Does CMMC?

We’ve heard many questions surrounding this topic, and we know there are plenty of reasons to ask it: “what does the future hold for CMMC?” Here’s a sampling of what we’ve been asked:

1. Will Pentagon cuts impact DIB contractors?
2. Should my DIB company continue working toward CMMC compliance if the Defense budget is getting slashed?
3. Will the CMMC implementation timeline be impacted?
4. What should my (DIB contractor) company do in light of these uncertainties?

Those are excellent questions. Let’s cover a few quick answers, and then we want to open our time up to you for responses tailored to you.

In order of the questions, here are the short answers:

1. Yes. The Pentagon (and all governmental agency) cuts are impacting many DIB contractors. We work with several that have already received stop orders, ranging from $1MM to $180MM. Will those stop orders eventually lead to a canceled contract? That’s another discussion that no one can answer with certainty right now. But in the interim, we suggest you brace yourself for cuts and consider broadening your income stream if it is largely based on DoD or federal contracts. (Talk to us about state and local government opportunities.)

2. Yes. The CMMC program seems to be one of the most secure of the DoD endeavors right now. You may recall that Katie Arrington was a key architect to the CMMC program under the previous Trump administration. She’s back — and this time, she’s the DoD CIO, in effect directing the CMMC program. Buckle in. We’re now in hyperdrive.

3. Yes. But not negatively. We expect to see things move more quickly. You have the architect, Katie Arrington, at the wheel again after several years of absence. Plus, our cyber threats have been more active than ever before. Again, buckle in.

4. Get certified — ASAP. There’s so much opportunity here, it’s a daily conversation for us. When you tell your Prime (and other contractors you’ve never worked with before) that you are certified, opportunities you’ve never had before will present themselves.
